Heritage Agritourism farms

The "Grain Path" exhibition at the Ribbes windmill shows how agriculture has developed over the course of the centuries and up to the modern technologies of the present day.

The Laumas farm offers you a chance to be a beekeeper, watching the lives of bees in hives (while wearing a beekeeper’s suit), touring a bee trail and climbing a tree with the help of a truss.

The host teaches the bread baking traditions and bakes in a real bread owen.

Programme:

• Meet the hostess, introduction to Caunītes country house.
• Bread baking workshop. Making bread loaves from a previously prepared dough. When the loaves are ready, the hostess will put them in the oven.
• Lunch while the bread is baking – a traditional meal of soup and bread.
• Taking the bread out of the oven. Guests will get their own loaves to take with them.

A permanent exposition on the history of sugar beet and sugar industry in Latvia has been installed in the Great Servants' House.

Hikers can take a tour to see the industrial history of Kolka, complete with theatrical elements and tasting of Latvia’s best sprats.

The owners have collected a set of old tools and milk processing equipment and will be happy talk about how these were used in the past.

Here you will find untraditional coffee based on ancient recipes that is made from barley, chicory, oak acorns, hemp and carrots.  You will learn about how this coffee is brewed and be offered a taste of it.

The lady of the house delivers lectures about life on the farm, covering the collection of medicinal teas, beekeeping and fence-making traditions.

Programme:

• Meet the hosts, general introduction to Turaidas farm.
• presentation – the hostess explains about the herbs that are collected in a large basket while guests are seated around the room and tasting the herbal teas.
• Tea production facility, explanation of the processes.
• Tasting fresh water from the well in the yard.
• A tour of the apiary with a demonstration of the beekeeper’s work.
• Tasting of diferent sorts of honey.

Stories are told about ancient Lettigalian lives, the role of craftsmanship at a family farm, the work that farmers used to do, as well as various skills.  Visitors are welcome to take part in the process actively and to enjoy meals featuring old Lettigalian dishes.

A farm in Latgale that milks cows and produces cheese from ancient recipes.  Guests are welcome to take part in the process.

Programme:

• Meet the hosts, general introduction to the Juri farm history and the origins of the local cheese making tradictions.
• See the dairy cows in outdoor enclosures.
• See the cheese production process.
• Presentation and tasting of the 5 types of cheese produced on the farm.

By the beekeeping farm “Kalniņi” there is a Bee Hut – small wooden house in which you can feel the presence of bees. The hives with seven bee families are built-in the sides of the Bee Hut, but inside the building they are designed as beds or seats. When looking at the building from the outside you can see the bee runs and also bees themselves. In addition, “Kalniņi” also offer different types of bee products – honey, pollen bread, beautiful and aromatic wax candles. It is possible to taste beekeeping products and enjoy a cap of warm tea. Families with kids can participate in educational workshops, learn how to make wax candles and gain information about the daily life in the beekeeping farm.

Since summer 2018 everyone can also visit the House of Crafts, where you can participate in different activities such as Encaustic painting (also known as hot wax painting), create wooden souvenirs with burnt folk signs as well as create wax candles etc. The House of Crafts offers different itineraries for grownups, kids, youngsters and newlyweds. There you can also purchase the offered products - various flower honey, pollen, pollen bread, propolis, cell honey and wax candles.

The farm features twelve friendly horses from Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus, as well as three eager dogs of various species, along with rabbits, chickens, cows and cats. Here you will feel the true country spirit in four adjoining farms – Klajumi, Ganiņi, Ķemeri and Krasti. The location is near the “Rings of the Daugava” Nature Park, and you can go horseback riding along the border between Latvia and Belarus.

Latvian cuisine: Schnitzel of mushrooms, potato dumplings with dried mushrooms or meat, cream sauce and onions, baked chanterelles with new potatoes, sautéed vegetables and mushrooms, strawberries with ice cream, moonshine liquor.
