  • Special programmes are offered to visitors, with meals, stories about holiday and everyday traditions, and songs. Sometimes visitors are involved in preparing the food.
  • Menus use local names for dishes along with explanations and a discussion of the local dialect.
  • Providers of Latvian foods also use ethnographic styles for interior design, as well as dishes, furniture, textiles, etc., from local craftspeople.

The “Kalnaruski” guesthouse

Located at the edge of the Vidzeme Highway (A2) between Ape and Jaunlaiceni, the guesthouse is a lovely location and features a viewing tower.
Latvian cuisine: Stock with profiteroles, sautéed sauerkraut with pearl barley and ham, stuffed schnitzel with wild mushrooms, marinated chicken livers in tomato sauce, rolled chops, rhubarb crème with berry sauce.

Manor house gardener’s café LUKE

During summer in the beautiful café Luke, set up in the manor house gardener's small cottage, guests can enjoy delicious local meals. There is a set everyday menu from local ingredients, but on festive occasions guests can order special menus and find suitable options both for celebrations of small groups and large, festive gatherings.

The “Rivas krogs” saloon

The saloon is alongside the Liepāja-Ventspils road (P111), alongside the restored wooden bridge across the Rīva River. The interior design is based on the sea. During the autumn, the large windows open up a view of salmon leaping across the dam of the windmill.

Latvian cuisine: Chilled soup, baked potatoes in their jacket, baked filet of flounder and cod, baked herring in a sea buckthorn marinade, pork chop with mushrooms, sausages with marinated onions, grey peas with bacon, mashed potatoes, stacked rye bread, oatmeal with whipped cream.

The “Dziles” bakery

The Dzīļu bakery in Malnava is a symbol of Krāslava and it is located next to the Malnava manor park. The lady of the house prepare hearty Lettigalian dishes and other country goodies. In the bakery the owner bakes different types of bread, for example, rye-bread, sweet-and sour bread, as well as makes cakes on pre-order. She also offers to groups and families to bake bread, pies, cakes or pizzas together. The tasting and Latgalian dishes in nowadays’style. A walk around the park of Malnava manor and stories about the white gate. Local bread is famous in Kārsava. The bakery offers brunch on weekends, as well as markets of local crafts and other products.
