  • Special programmes are offered to visitors, with meals, stories about holiday and everyday traditions, and songs. Sometimes visitors are involved in preparing the food.
  • Menus use local names for dishes along with explanations and a discussion of the local dialect.
  • Providers of Latvian foods also use ethnographic styles for interior design, as well as dishes, furniture, textiles, etc., from local craftspeople.

The “Fon Meks” restaurant

The restaurant is in the Grand Hall of the restored Liepupe Estate. Ancient cooking traditions are merged with modern culinary methods. The restaurant works with local farmers and grows greens and herbs in its own garden. Guests are welcome to help with preparing foods on a wood-fired stove in the antique kitchen.

Latvian cuisine: Rye bread canapé, a plate of Latvian cheeses, country salad with greens, grilled seasonal vegetables, estate stock, local fish dishes, baked port chop, baked herb-crusted mutton.

The castle diner is situated next to Koknese castle ruins. Either before or after boating, Nordic walking, visiting the castle ruins, enjoy tasty coffee, baked buns, snacks, french fries, grilled sausages, ice-cream or buy a soft drink to go with your sandwiches and to drink while sitting in the courtyard of the ancient castle and watching an amazing view of Perse and Daugava crossing. The “Spridisi” café

The café is situated in a comfortable cellar of a museum commemorating the life of the Latvian author Anna Brigadere. Here you will find a variety of foods and drinks that can satisfy any taste. In the summer, in the yard filled with sunshine, you will be able to relax on the outdoor terrace, listening to the waterflow of the Tervete river, whereas in winter, having enjoyed the snow drifted landscapes, warm up in the cellar, drinking tasty tea. The café organises parties with the good witches of the Tērvete forest, as well as rides in horse-drawn carts or sleds.

Latvian cuisine: Pork ribs in honey sauce, pancakes with jam, mushroom sauce.

The restaurant is on the seashore with a wonderful view of Jūrmala. The grill terrace is a stylised ship wheel. The restaurant partners with local farmers and fishermen.

The saloon is in the centre of Jelgava alongside the bridge over the Driksa River, where there is a new shoreline promenade. Wood has been used for interior design, and the saloon regularly organises musical evenings.
