Araisi windmillThe windmill is on a hill and offers a lovely view. This is one of the few Dutch-type windmills (built in 1852) to still be in operational order, and guests can help to grind grain. On the last Sunday of every July, the windmill organises a celebration in honour of St Jacob and of bread baked from freshly harvested rye. Pampukas caféThis summer terrace café is on the beach of the Preiļi park, and it offers 100% natural ice cream with berries, as well as fresh pancakes. The café is only open from Mother’s Day (May 8) until Father’s Day (September 11). Tourist groups are offered tours and tastings of cheese-based ice cream. |

The “Rivas krogs” saloonThe saloon is alongside the Liepāja-Ventspils road (P111), alongside the restored wooden bridge across the Rīva River. The interior design is based on the sea. During the autumn, the large windows open up a view of salmon leaping across the dam of the windmill. Latvian cuisine: Chilled soup, baked potatoes in their jacket, baked filet of flounder and cod, baked herring in a sea buckthorn marinade, pork chop with mushrooms, sausages with marinated onions, grey peas with bacon, mashed potatoes, stacked rye bread, oatmeal with whipped cream. |
