  • Special programmes are offered to visitors, with meals, stories about holiday and everyday traditions, and songs. Sometimes visitors are involved in preparing the food.
  • Menus use local names for dishes along with explanations and a discussion of the local dialect.
  • Providers of Latvian foods also use ethnographic styles for interior design, as well as dishes, furniture, textiles, etc., from local craftspeople.

The “Raibais asaris” café

The café is on the edge of the Jēkabpils-Rēzekne road (A12) in a lovely location by a pond where guests can fish for perch, pike, tench and carp.  Eastern cuisine and fish dishes are offered.

The saloon is alongside the Ieriķupīte River in the centre of town. There is a nature trail to look at local waterfalls and a windmill. The saloon offers homemade baked goods.

The “Jautrais ods” café

The café is located at the 125th km of the Vidzeme Highway (A2).

The “Rivas krogs” saloon

The saloon is alongside the Liepāja-Ventspils road (P111), alongside the restored wooden bridge across the Rīva River. The interior design is based on the sea. During the autumn, the large windows open up a view of salmon leaping across the dam of the windmill.

Latvian cuisine: Chilled soup, baked potatoes in their jacket, baked filet of flounder and cod, baked herring in a sea buckthorn marinade, pork chop with mushrooms, sausages with marinated onions, grey peas with bacon, mashed potatoes, stacked rye bread, oatmeal with whipped cream.

The “Neptuns” restaurant

The restaurant is on the seaside and in the Ķemeri National Park. A medieval saloon in Jaunpils castle

Meals are served in the ancient dining room of the knights under the vaulted ceiling, with candlelight and medieval music. Use wooden spoons or your hands to enjoy the same kind of feast that was enjoyed in the past by barons, monks and servants.

The “Bruzis” restaurant

The restaurant is in the Abula River Valley in the Smiltene Park, and it is housed in the former brewery of the Kalnamuiža Estate. Alongside is a cider brewery, which allows guests to taste apple cider and homemade wine made from Latvian berries.
