Medicinal plants and herbal teas

The watermill of the Krape Estate is found on the Lobe River in the Ogre Administrative District.  Owners offer tours of the mill so that you can learn how the old mill operates.  You can stroll along the banks of the river or learn about plants in the meadow.  There are places for tenting, but the main operation here is the production of elixirs from meadow plants, production of soy wax candles, production of etheric oils and hydrolats, a well as growing trout and African catfish that can be viewed during the season.  A new thing is SPA services with floating, a halotherapy salt beach and an aromatherapy steam system.

Floating is a unique way to boost your health.  You’ll be dipped into a warm magnesium salt solution, which will allow your body to relax completely in physical, emotional and intellectual terms.  The solution (MgSO4) is very concentrated, and it has a temperature of +37C, which is body temperature.  That’s what makes the procedure so relaxing.  Your body will not sink because of the concentration of salt, and you will float above it like bobber.  You will relax all of your tendons and possibly compressed nerves.  Your limbs will “oil up.”  Your body will receive a very necessary dose of magnesium through your skin.

You can also take part in baking KrapesKrepes crepes – home baked crepes made of milk from one neighbouring homestead and eggs from another neighbouring homestead.  You can also prepare a meal on a Himalayan salt board
 

This farm produces herbal teas and satchels of tea from lemon balm, raspberries, tansy, lady's mantles, plantago and linden blossoms as souvenirs and gifts, as well as honey from local hives.  The lady of the house will be happy to tell you about life in the countryside and take you on an educational tour featuring medicinal plants, beekeeping and fence buildings.  She will also offer tastings of products from the farm.  It has a biological farming certificate, so much attention is focused on the popularisation of a healthy lifestyle.  Clients can purchase teas made of raspberries, blackberries, linden blossoms, meadowsweet, yarrow, birch leaves, white nettles, etc. 

This farm is in the Vilce Parish in the Jelgava Administrative District.  It grows greenhouse vegetables and plants, produces various medicinal plant ointments and offers lectures about nutrition and a health lifestyle.  A country sauna is also available.

Relax among natural meadows at Antiņciems, which is part of the Ķemeri National Park.  There is space for picnicking and tenting, with canopies for seminars and private events outdoor.  A guide will accompany you for a stroll through a meadow where you can truly sense the presence of nature.

Owner Sanita Matule teaches master classes related to products from the meadows – tastings and educational activities outdoors.  Sanita will tell various stories about Antiņciems, the border between Kurzeme and Vidzeme, traditions in growing chicory, etc.  There is a permanent spiral herbal bed for various herbs.  The owner grows chicory and offers chicory coffee.

This is an ecological and biodynamic medicinal plant farm that is run by two sisters who produce herbal teas and spices. Educational programmes offer information about the plants and their medicinal properties. You can lease bikes to ride down the bike paths of the Žemaitija National Park.

The farm grows and collects more than 80 types of medicinal plants, including peppermint, marigold, chamomile, oregano, St John’s wort, wormwood, oats, creeping thyme, broadleaf plantain, field penny-cress, meadowsweet, etc. You can take a tour and learn all about medicinal plants and how they are used. During autumns, you can purchase medicinal teas.

The Kurmīši farm grows medicinal plants in an ecologically pure and lovely nature park, "Curves of Daugava," which is part of the protected landscape area "Augšdaugava." Since 1994, the farm has produced approximately 40 types of medicinal plants so as to ensure the preservation of the farm.  Enthusiasts and tourists can learn all about medicinal plants and how they are prepared.  After the tour, you can taste and purchase Kurmīši herbal teas, which taste the best if you add honey from local beekeeping operations.  Candles made of beeswax offer a special atmosphere.  The farm has areas for relaxation and a facility where the candles are made.  You can purchase a wide range of wax souvenirs and tour the beekeeping facility.  The owner also offers guided tours of the arm.

You can learn about the lives of bees and buy honey made from all kinds of flowers, propolis, propolis blankets and wax candles. Apian therapy is offered here. This is an ancient method which involves a bed under which there are beehives. The bees create warmth, vibration and a biofield.

Der Elkas kalna-Bauernhof befindet sich auf dem malerischen Hügel Elka – dort, wo der Fluss Gauja beginnt. Kräutertees, Birkensaft, Marmeladen und sonstige gesunde Leckereien aus lokalen Wiesen- und Gartenpflanzen. Es werden auch Natur-Werkstätten und Picknicks im Freien angeboten.

Bei der Führung wird über den Anbau von Lavendel erzählt, die Erzeugnisse des Hofes vorgestellt und Tee angeboten. Die Besucher haben die Möglichkeit durch die Lavendelfelder zu laufen und dort Fotos zu machen und sich in der behaglichen und duften Umgebung im Stil der Provence zu erholen.

Ebenso kann man sich in der traditionellen Sauna mit Birkenquast abschlagen. Man kann beim Melken zuschauen und auch selbst versuchen zu melken, frisch gebackenes Brot und Brötchen kaufen, sowie die Spezialität des Hauses, Apfeltee. Man kann ein Familienzelt mieten, an verschiedenen landwirtschaftlichen Arbeiten teilnehmen und diese erlernen. Zudem kann man angeln und im Teich baden sowie sich im Bogenschießen üben, sowohl mit traditionellen als auch mit modernen Bögen.
