UP- skills Transparency for qualifications and future skills for the hotel and tourism industry

Europe faces the challenge to fight rising levels of unemployment. Too many young people leave school too early and adults are often only equipped with low skills, which increases the risk for (future) unemployment even further. The Europe 2020 strategy foresees to foster a high- employment economy whilst ensuring sustainable growth with a more resource efficient, greener and more competitive economy. To address this issue and at the same time to counteract for fighting a prognosed shortage of skilled staff appropriate actions need to be taken.

This project aims to promote CSR as nowadays, Corporate Social Responsibility  is well known and applied in many economic sectors. However, when speaking about tourism only global players, world-wide operating chains and major touristic resorts are familiar with this socio-economic policy. Micro enterprises and SME, especially in rural areas, have usually little idea what this terminus stands for and how it can be utilised for their economic development.

To develop rural tourism that is targeted on seniors, project partners have created several steps: set specific criteria for rural tourism hospitality services and destinations to receive Seniors, complimented by Guidelines for rural tourism businesses on the preparation of products that are appropriate to senior needs.
