The hunting lodge of the commander of the Baltic War District

The territory around it covered 105,000 hectares, including Lake Engure, which has always been popular among hunters and fishermen. There were four boat bases with 80 boats on the banks of the river. The hunting territory was populated with 17 types of animals and 25 types of birds for hunters to track.

Crossing the border regime zone

During the Soviet era the entire coastline from Mērsrags was part of the border regime zone. Civilians who were not local residents and did not have specially authorised permission to visit the area could not do so officially.
