  • Special programmes are offered to visitors, with meals, stories about holiday and everyday traditions, and songs. Sometimes visitors are involved in preparing the food.
  • Menus use local names for dishes along with explanations and a discussion of the local dialect.
  • Providers of Latvian foods also use ethnographic styles for interior design, as well as dishes, furniture, textiles, etc., from local craftspeople.

The “Tami Tami” restaurant and bar

The restaurant is in the centre of Jelgava among residential buildings. It is known for its interesting interior and for the musical and other events that it organises.

Latvian cuisine: Farmer’s omelette, roast pork with chanterelles and wild mushrooms, grit risotto, strawberry soup with ice cream, crepes.

The “Rudolfs” saloon

The saloon is in the former home of the governor of the Koknese Estate. It is named after the Latvian author Rūdolfs Blaumanis, who studied at the estate and lived there for two years. There is an outdoor terrace, and it is possible to hold celebrations there.

Latvian cuisine: Potato salad, herring salad, bean salad Valmiera salad, beef with onions, pork ribs, homemade steak haché, roast beef with horseradish sauce, baked liver, herring with cottage cheese, oatmeal dessert.

A banquet on the farm, restaurant "Otra puse"

The “Banquet With Fishermen” event in Roja allows guests to examine the work of fishermen and to enjoy the seafood which they produce. Guests will ride out into the sea in fishing boats and then dine together with the fishermen (fish soup cooked on a campfire, rye bread, butter, smoked fish, beer or kvass, and pastries). The fishermen will teach guests local songs and dances, as well as games related to strength and cleverness. The “Otra Puse” restaurant offers meals.

Latvian cuisine: Fresh fish (“The Morning Catch”), Latvian onion soup, porridge, grit sausage, smoked fish, potato pancakes, rye bread dessert, beer, the “Dzimtenīte” beverage, herbal tea, birch juice, apple cider.

The “Aveni” saloon

The saloon is opposite the Machinery Museum on the edge of Bauska. The nationally historical interior allows visitors to comfortably feel different than others.

The “Cope” café

The watermill was restored in the 1920s and renewed operations in 1992. It offers a look at historical mechanisms and the milling process, while the café offers pancakes made of the flour that is ground at the mill.

Latvian cuisine: Herring with cottage cheese and boiled potatoes, pancakes with mushrooms, cheese, vegetables, meat, honey, cream, cottage cheese, ice cream and caramel.

The saloon is in the 250-year-old servants’ home of the Rundāle Castle, with a brick floor, pot-bellied stoves, a smokestack and other historical objects. Meals are served on antique dishes, and hot beverages are served in cups from the Kuzņecovs Factory.
