  • Special programmes are offered to visitors, with meals, stories about holiday and everyday traditions, and songs. Sometimes visitors are involved in preparing the food.
  • Menus use local names for dishes along with explanations and a discussion of the local dialect.
  • Providers of Latvian foods also use ethnographic styles for interior design, as well as dishes, furniture, textiles, etc., from local craftspeople.

A place where you can enjoy nature and food. The tavern Kogre got its name from Seven Fish Soup - crucian (koger), is the seventh fish. The owner is a fisherman, and together with his wife he prepares various dishes from his catch.

Recreation park Ramkalni

The Rāmkalni recreation park is located on the side of the Murjāņi-Valka highway (A3), in the Gauja valley. It offers skiing in winter and cycling, boating, and tobogganing in summer. The restaurant and bistro serves both Latvian and Western European cuisine. Various countryside goods can be purchased in the shop.

The “Plostkrogs” saloon

This saloon is in a lovely place – the ancient Abava River valley between Kandava and Sabile. It is housed in an historical building with among the largest chimneys in the Baltic States. A camp for water tourists is alongside the saloon.

Latvian cuisine: Chilled beet soup, dumpling soup, sorrel soup, sauerkraut soup, chicken livers, homemade steak haché, dried pork ribs, roast pork, grilled pork, potato pancakes with cream, crepes, herbal teas.

Special foods: Cabbage stuffed with smoked meat, cottage cheese and onions.

The “Eglaines” guesthouse

The guesthouse is on the shore of the Ancient Amata River Valley, and it was built with natural materials – local dolomite blocks. It serves ecological foods, including potatoes grown in bio-humus, wild berries and mushrooms, and country treats and greens from the guesthouse’s own garden.

Hotel and restaurant DIK‎LI PALACE

Located in the centre of Dikļi, the 1896 castle was renovated into a four-star hotel in 2003. The castle offers a look at antique furnishings, fireplaces and ovens, as well as paintings by Latvian artists. Two restaurants (summer and winter) offer fine dining and an individualised approach. The castle works with local farms.

Latvian cuisine: Beefsteak, grilled trout, smoked wild board bacon, filet of pike from Lake Burtnieki, seasonal mushrooms and berries.

This location is on the north-eastern shore of Lake Rāzna.  The lad of the house offers Lettigalian foods, interactive activities to learn about the surrounding environment, as well as guide services.

The Aglona Bread Museum

At this museum, you will learn all about the baking of bread from grain to loaf, and you can make your own loaves, too. You can taste bread and herbal teas. There are theatrical performances related to christenings, weddings, birthdays, etc. Local foods such as dumplings and soups made of dried mushrooms or lake fish are served. The museum sells freshly baked bread, as well as the work of local craftspeople. The hostess is a master baker and a member of the Chamber of Crafts.
