This arboretum park is in a lovely place – the Blue Hills of Ogre, where there is a tower with a good view of the Daugava River Valley. The landscape is enlivened by a pond and its streams. There are beautiful hiking trails throughout the park. Unique species: The Amur Cork Tree (Phellodendron amurense) and the Field Elm (Ulmus minor), among others.

Three little lakes can be found on the left bank of the Pirita River with many erupting “eyes” of streams, each with its own colour (bluish-green, white, dark). This puts together various colour combinations. These are often known as the most beautiful streams in Estonia. Some pump out as much as 20-30 litres of water per hour. It is said that the waters are good medical resources, particularly for the eyes. There are improvements in the area of tourists.

Divus kilometrus garās lokveida takas sākums ir meklējams pie Somā nacionālā parka apmeklētāju centra (atklāts 2000. gadā) – Tēramā ciemā. Tā ved gar Mardu strauta (Mardu oja) krastu, kur krustām šķērsām ir sakrituši bebru nogāztie koki, radot diezgan juceklīgu skatu. Rankas Dairy was established in 1996 and manufactured some 80 dairy processing products, including cheese, cottage cheese, cream, fermented dairy products, desserts, etc.  This is one of five companies in Latvia that is allowed to manufacture one of the EU’s guaranteed traditional characteristics product, “Summer Solstice” cheese.  The products are available at the “Rīmaļnieks” store that is alongside the dairy.

Līdz 18. gs. šajā vietā bija koka baznīca, kamēr 1798. g. uzcēla mūra baznīcu, kas cieta 1. pasaules karā, bet 2. pasaules kara laikā to uzspridzināja. Tikai pusgadsimtu vēlāk - 1991. gadā tika uzsākti atjaunošanas darbi, kas joprojām turpinās. Tagad redzamais dievnams ir iepriekšējā līdzinieks.

Viļāni Old-Believers Prayer House. The architect P.Pavlovs built Old-Believers Prayer House in 1930s. The congregation was established very recently. Nevertheless the 14 meters high tower was constructed in 2004. The Prayer House is a very simple building but you will be pleased to see the magnificent icons. The Prayer House has been renovated completely.

Muižas pils (no sarkaniem ķieģeļiem celta) ir meklējama ceļu krustojumā pie Gaujām – 2 km ziemeļaustrumos no Jaunpiebalgas centra, Gaujas labajā krastā. Līdz 1918. g. muižas īpašnieki bija slaveno grāfu Šeremetjevu dzimta. Muižas pili nodedzināja 1905. g. nemieros, bet vēlāk atjaunoja. Muižas pilī bijušas dažādas iestādes: slimnīca, kolhoza „Piebalga” administrācija, mūsdienās – pašvaldība un dažādu sadzīves pakalpojumu sniedzēji.

The rock is in the square outside the Skrunda Cultural Centre.  It was installed in 2005 in honour of the victory of Col Oskars Kalpaks and his battalion over the Bolsheviks.  During the Latvian liberation battles, on January 22, 1919, the Bolsheviks occupied Skrunda.  Kalpaks’ battalion headed toward the town on January 29 from the Rudbārži Estate.  After a three-hour battle, the victory was won, with the battalion taking over a strategic line near the banks of the Venta River.   This was the first victory for Kalpaks’ men after many retreats, and that inspired the rest of the liberation battles.
