The memorial stone to Augusts Muižulis,a recipient of the Lāčplēsis Military Order, is placed in the Lapmežciems, at the edge of the road (P 128, Jūrmala-Talsi) at the marker for the 9th kilometre. A. Muižulis, (189 –1941) was a lieutenant colonel in the No. 4 Valmiera Infantry Brigade. The adjacent Tuteņi homestead is his native home.

Ancient legends say that ship sank in the sea near the old cemetery during a storm and during a worship service. The pastor and members of the congregation volunteered to use a rowboat to save the crew of the ship.  Some of the men were rescued, while others were washed ashore.  In honour of this tragic, but also happy solution, the captain called the place Feliksberga, or the Lucky Shore.  Later it became known as Pilsberga, and it was renamed Jūrkalne only in 1925.

A short trip by the narrow-gauge steam engine is a special attraction for kids as well as adults. Water pleasures can be fully enjoyed at indoor or outdoor aqua parks. Go for self-drive excursions in vicinity featuring scenic sea coast, traditional fishing villages where smoked fish can be bought from fishermen, Slitere National Park with beautiful view from its lighthouse, charming Kuldiga with its wooden architecture and waterfall. On the way back to Riga, adults might enjoy stop at the home winery to taste excellent wines made from everything else but grapes. Kids would love a stop at the farmstead to see various farm animals and feed some rabbits. Before Riga make a stop at Jurmala, famous historic sea and spa resort.

No vairākiem parka ūdenskritumiem noteikti ir jāapmeklē divi. 1,2 m augstais vienpakāpes Nemmeveski ir izveidojies uz Valgejegi upes (Valgejõgi), vietā kur tā šķērso Ziemeļigaunijas glintu. Šeit Valgejegi atgādina krāčainu (īpaši – pavasaros) kalnu upi, kas plūst pa vairākus metrus augstu klinšu ieskautu kanjonu. Palu laikā šo upes posmu ir iecienījuši ekstrēmie ūdenssporta veidu cienītāji. Pie ūdenskrituma un tālāk pa upi lejup redzamas ap 1920. g. celtās hidroelektrostacijas konstrukciju paliekas.

The house is on the eastern shore of Lake Lubāns with a wonderful view of Latvia’s largest lake. The owners prepare dishes from local freshwater fish, using old recipes and ones that they have developed themselves. "Zvejnieki" is the participant of Latgalian culinary heritage.

Latvian cuisine: Porridge with homemade jam, fish soup, bream or pike cakes, smoked carp, sautéed wild duck, sautéed elk, wild berries with milk.

Special foods: Oven-baked pike-perch with potatoes or vegetables.

The farm grows apples, pears and medicinal plants such as peppermint, marigold, etc. The owners also collect wild medicinal plants. An interesting tour is available, and you can purchase products at the farm or at the Latvian Eco Product Store at Barona Street 45-47 in Rīga.

Kolkja, Kasepää and Varnja are another example of one-street villages of Old Believers who fled to Estonia from Russia in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The Old Believers Museum (www.hot.ee/kolkjamuuseum) is located in Kolkja as is Suur-Kolkja prayer house. An Old Believers´ church and the Museum of Living History are found in Varnja (www.starover.ee). Both museums tell a gripping and well-illustrated story of Old Believers on Lake Peipsi over 350 years.

Mätiku farm and dairy farm processes and produces milk, as well as breeds chickens and goats. The small dairy farm produces a wide range of dairy products from cow's milk. When booking in advance, you can visit the farm, get to know its work and taste the produce.
