Points of interest




  • The Geidas farm specialises in dairy farming and offers an educational tour, "Milky Way."  Try your hand at churning some butter and learn all about dairy products.

  • Along the way you will stop at the capital city of the Duchy of Courland, including the Jelgava Castle and the St Trinity Church with its steeple.

  • The Caunītes farm offers a Latvian atmosphere.  Bake bread with the owners, learn about Latvian traditions, and celebrate various holidays there.

  • The Bērziņi (Labirinti) farm grows grain and rapeseed.  You can visit a collection of old tools and dairy processing equipment and work with the items that are exhibited.  There is a playground for children.

Day 2 Bauska – Bārbele – Vecumnieki - Rīga


  • The Miķelis leisure complex is in a lovely place and offers peace and quiet.  Learn about the history of the region by visiting the farm and the retro automobile museum.  The restaurant offers very elegant dishes.

  • Bauska features the Bauska Castle on the shores of the Mūsa and Mēmele rivers, which has a south-eastern tower with a viewing platform.  Visit the new Bauska City Hall with its collection of antique measuring equipment.  You will be able to measure yourself with ancient measuring units, including feet and pounds.  You will receive a certificate once you have done so.

  • The Vaidelotes farm popularises the Latvian lifestyle and traditional rituals, also offering country goodies such as porridge, doughnuts, pierogi and pastries made of locally grown grain and roughly milled flour.  You can purchase teas, spices and country goodies.

  • The Ausekļu windmill open-air museum offers a range of tools, farm equipment and household items that are characteristic of the Latvian countryside.  Help to bake bacon pierogi and loaves of bread in a real country oven.  The owner of the museum offers educational tours.
