The "Baltic Way" route is in honour of a unique demonstration on August 23, 1989, when residents of the three Baltic States joined hands in a chain of participants that stretched along a nearly 600 km distance to link the three capital cities of Vilnius, Rīga and Tallinn.  In historical terms, this route was used from the 14th or 15th century or even earlier than that.

Grain-based foods in this region have a long history.  Tasty and yeasty rye bread is common, and in Vidzeme, try it with some hemp butter.  Barley is used to bake buns and for porridges.  Wheat is used to bake water pretzels with caraway seeds.  Visit farms and restored windmills to track the route of grain.

A special cheese is part of Summer Solstice celebrations, and on a daily basis you can enjoy other tasty cheeses made of cow and goat milk.  Various river and lake fishes are popular, as are local meat and fowl dishes and wild game with tasty sauces.  A roast or a pot of soup cooked on a live campfire will have a lovely aroma, and it will be served with vegetables, greens, beans, peas and mushrooms.  Wild plants such as sorrel, dandelion or young nettle leaves are added to soups and salads.

Treat yourself with fresh honey, bacon pies, sheet cakes, pastries, rye bread desserts, honey cakes and gingerbread.  You will find simple and traditional dishes, romantic meals in castles and estates, as well as a special knighthood repast with spices typical in the age of the Livonian Order.  Slake your thirst with herbal teas, birch juice, berry beverages, tasty beer or wine or a glass of something stronger.

Der Wirt hat seine Wirtschaft an einem Ufer eines schönen Sees, an der Stelle eines alten Hauses gegründet. Er hat Bienenhäuser an zwei Orte aufgestellt: auf einem Hügel des Sees und auf einer schönen Waldwiese, die er selber gebildet hat. Neben dem Bienengarten befindet sich ein schöner Apfelgarten, wo der Wirt im Herbst sehr gerne Helfer sieht. Seit 1996 hat der Wirt langsam diese Wirtschaft erneuert und gepflegt: Jetzt befinden sich hier ein schöner See, ein Seehaus, eine Kornkammer mit renoviertem ersten Stockwerk und einem Balkon, ein Bienengarten und ein Apfelgarten.

The farm is along the upper reaches of the Daugava Ancient River Valley, and it offers more than 100 types of plants, including decorative plants, herbs, medicinal plants and traditional Latvian farm plants. You can tour the largest field of so-called Northern kiwis in Latvia. Take a tour, purchase plants, taste teas, fruits and berries, and receive consultations from the owner.

Die Gastgeberin des Strandhauses Tahku organisiert Workshops zum Marinieren und Einlegen von Gurken. Dabei herrscht eine fröhliche Atmosphäre. Das Gurkenfest Tahkuranna findet jedes Jahr am 20. August statt. Man kann dort auch Gurkenkonserve, lokale Lebensmittelprodukte und Handwerkserzeugnisse kaufen sowie Handwerkserzeugnisse selbst herstellen.

The Lode (Apši) Lutheran Church is between Lake Bānūži and Lake Ilze. It is a unique example of wooden architecture and dates back to 1780. The log church had a straw roof until the early 20^th century, at which point a shingled roof was installed instead.

The farm breeds breeding cows (Galloway, Hereford, Limousine, Charolais and Latvian brown species). You can take an informational tour and watch the feeding of calves.

Pirmie dokumenti par Kokmuižu atrodami 1601. gada zemes revīzijas pierakstos. Tur sniegtā informācija vēsta, ka Kokmuiža pastāvējusi jau 1560. gadā. Taču 1880. gadā vācu muižnieks sākas celt kungu māju neobaroka stilā. 20. gs. sākumā tā tika izpostīta, bet 1937. gadā to pārveidoja par skolu.

Kokmuižā kādreiz atradusies alus darītava. Tas bija laika periodā no 17.- 20. gs. Tā bija viena no slavenākajām alusdarītavām visā Vidzemes guberņā.

Mūsdienās var izstaigāt muižu pats vai gida pavadībā. Var aplūkot kungu māju, staļļu ēkas, muižas pārvaldnieka namu, bibliotēku, ekspozīciju, abas klētis un alus darītavas pagrabu, kā arī sfērisko saules pulksteni.

Im Burg-Komplex von Cesis trifft die Vergangenheit auf die Zukunft. 
Die mittelalterliche Burg bietet eine wundervolle Gelegenheit, 800 Jahre in der Zeit zurück zu reisen. Hier könnt ihr den Westturm mit kerzenbestückten Laternen erklimmen, einen guten Blick auf den Burggarten und den Park gewinnen, hinunter in den Kerker steigen, und auch dem Schmied beim Erschaffen lettgallischen Schmucks in der alten Schmiede zuschauen. 
Direkt neben den imposanten Ruinen steht das Neue Schloss, ein Herrenhaus aus dem 18. Jahrhundert. Heute befindet sich darin das Kunst- und Geschichtsmuseum von Cesis, wo die Ereignisse der letzten 800 Jahre veranschaulicht werden. Hier befindet sich die allererste Flagge Lettlands, die ersten Münzen der Stadt Cesis, eine beeindruckende Innengestaltung im Stil des Biedermeier, sowie die einzige historische Rekonstruktion des Gesichts einer Frau, deren Skelett in der mittelalterlichen Burg gefunden wurde. Einen großartigen Abschluss des Burg-Besuchs bietet der Lademacher-Turm mit seinem atemberaubenden Ausblick auf die Stadt.  
Der Park am Fuß des Burggeländes wurde ursprünglich als privater Garten vom Schlossbesitzer Carl Gustav von Sievers gestaltet. Der Park ist wie eine Zeitmaschine, und fernab des modernen Alltags könnt ihr in seinem Schutz die Seele baumeln lassen. Jeder kann das Besondere spüren, das diesem Ort innewohnt, und sich in unbeschreiblicher Wonne am Teich entspannen. 
In kurzer Entfernung, direkt am Stadtzentrum gelegen, befindet sich der Mai-Park. Dieser ist mit seinen erleuchteten Fontänen und den schwarzen Schwänen, die hier leben, ein essentieller Bestandteil der städtischen Landschaft. Es ist auch ein idealer Ort, um sich mit der Familie zu erholen, denn im Park gibt es einen Spielplatz mit vielen Möglichkeiten zum aktiv werden. 

This barrow is on the western side of the Dunduri meadows and was built on the parking lot of the former collective farm. From the second level of the tower, you will have an excellent view of the meadows all the way to the Džukste River and the Kauguri canal. There are livestock accustomed to life in the wild, although they will sometimes be quite distant. This is a bird-watching location from the springtime until the second half of the summer.
