An important complex of the coastline and its sand dunes along with the mouths of three major rivers – the Lielupe, the Daugava and the Gauja. This area has ancient traditions of recreation and spa services. The territory has lovely shoreline landscapes and features one of the few coastline meadows in Latvia. The nature park includes several restricted areas – the meadows of the Lielupe estuary, Vakarbuļļi, Daugavgrīva, Vecdaugava and Ummis (see the section on “Restricted Natural Areas”). Interesting elements of nature in this area include the amphitheatre of the Garciems dunes, along with individual dunes such as the Legzdiņi dune and the so-called ski mountain dune. Visitors will be attracted by various cultural and historical monuments – fortifications on the Mangaļi peninsula, military buildings from the period of the Russian tsars all the way through the late period of the Soviet occupation, the fortress of Daugavgrīva, the Vecāķi spa with its old shoreline buildings, and the beaches at Daugavgrīva and Vecāķi. The proximity of the city of Rīga and various important recreational resources are the reason for the massive anthropogenic burden that is placed on this territory. The nature park is appropriate for active tourism (hiking, bicycling, boating, driving), distance skiing, nature and bird-watching, cultural tourism, passive leisure and educational tourism. There are nature trails at Daugavgrīva and the Rožu dunes, along with other elements of infrastructure.

Nepilnus 3 km garā taka iepazīstina ar dziļo Imulas ieleju – Abavas kreisā krasta pieteku. Īpaši iespaidīga ieleja izskatās bezlapu periodā, kad ir apjaušami tās izmēri un formas. Near the Priedīši homestead, there is a nature trail which allows visitors to study Lake Dziļezers and the surroundings. There are various lakes in this region which are found in a depression left behind by the Ice Age – Lake Dziļezers, Lake Riebezers, Lake Mazezers, Lake Auziņš, Lake Skuja and Lake Bruņķītis are all there. Along their shores, there are various kinds of forests, including ones with broadleaf trees that are under environmental protection. The trail is 3km in length and will take an hour or so to traverse. This is a part of the environmentally restricted territory of Lake Dziļezers and Lake Riebezers.

The ancient sauna house is a great place for rest and relaxation in Hiiumaa. The house is built of thick logs and has a sod roof. The house has a sauna.
The ancient cottage "Pähkli" is suitable for families with children, everything you need is available - the house has a kitchen corner, an outdoor kitchen and a fireplace in the yard, a clean dry toilet outside.

Историки говорят, что ливы на территории древней Латвии были известны еще с Х века. Они населяли Северное Курземе, низовья Даугавы и Гауи, и местность от Гипки до Овиши, где до сих пор можно найти приморские рыбацкие поселки ливского происхождения.

Приморские жители всегда питались приготовленной разными способами морской, речной и озерной рыбой: копченой камбалой, салакой, треской, лещом и бельдюгой, жареной миногой, соленой килькой, салакой и сельдью. Свежий малосольный балтийский лосось является деликатесом. На углях жарят судака, форель, карпа, сома или окуня целиком. Гости могут принять участие в рыбалке и копчении рыбы. Заказав дегустационный стол, можно попробовать всего по чуть-чуть.

Рожь раскрывает свой вкус в ржаном и кисло-сладком хлебе, скландраусисах и даже в блинах и пипаркукас. В Видземе пекут ячневые оладьи. Здесь готовят вкусные блюда из мяса домашней птицы и скота, а к новогоднему столу подают свиной пятачок с горохом или запеченного молочного поросенка. Трактиры предлагают дичь с брусникой, грибами и другими дарами природы. На гарнир подаются осенние корнеплоды, тыква, бобы или перловка. Вкус блюд дополняют невероятно вкусные соусы.

Традиционными пирожками, открытыми пирогами, кренделями, яблочными и медовыми тортами можно наслаждаться и по праздникам, и в обычные дни. Очень вкусны десерты из ржаных панировочных сухарей, клюквы, брусники и сливок. В Курземе популярны также черничные клецки, летом здесь готовят множество десертов со свежими ягодами. Силу природы и здоровье дарят душистые травяные чаи и мед. Головокружительные впечатления подарит вам кружка пива или дегустация домашнего вина.

One of the most beautiful sections of the Baltic Coastal Hiking Route in Matsalu National Park, which leads through the agricultural lands and coastal meadows located near Matsalu Bay, where thousands of migrating cranes and geese gather in autumn. There are excellent birdwatching sites with towers near Haeska village (coastal meadows, shallow coves, small islets, cattle pastures) and at Cape Puise (coastal meadows with pastures, shoals). This park was set up to protect the landscape and cultural environment of the Haanja highland. At the central part of the park are the two highest hills in the Baltic States – Suur Munamägi, which stands 318 m above sea level, and Vällamägi, which is 304 m above sea level. The ancient Rõuge River valley (Rõuge ürgorg) is found in the western part of the park. It is 7.5 km long and up to 60 m deep. This is the most visually impressive drumlin field in the Baltic States, and it is close to the village of Tabivere. The drumlins were established by ice glaciers, and they point in the direction in which the ice moved long ago. In terms of their appearance, the drumlins resemble loaf-shaped hillocks. From their “backs,” there are lovely views of the local landscape and the lakes that are around the area. The visitor centre is in the village of Äksi.
