The national park was established to protect the 100 or so small islands that make up the archipelago of the local area. The largest island, the Vilsandi Island, is 6 km long and up to 2 km wide. You can rent a boat to get there, or, during appropriate conditions, you can walk across the sea and the small islands from the southern end of the Kuusnõmme peninsula.

The saloon is in the former home of the governor of the Koknese Estate. It is named after the Latvian author Rūdolfs Blaumanis, who studied at the estate and lived there for two years. There is an outdoor terrace, and it is possible to hold celebrations there. Latvian cuisine: Potato salad, herring salad, bean salad Valmiera salad, beef with onions, pork ribs, homemade steak haché, roast beef with horseradish sauce, baked liver, herring with cottage cheese, oatmeal dessert. This route is best for active hikers who want to travel down the valley of the mightiest river in the Baltic States to see lovely landscapes and feel powerful emotions. The route begins in Sigulda, which has been known as the Switzerland of Vidzeme and offers some of the loveliest views in Latvia. The route crosses the deep valleys of several Gauja River territory, offering a look at shores that are known at the Baltic level for their mighty Devonian cliffs. The nature trails in Līgatne are the only place in Latvia to see forestland that is close to natural circumstances, with forest animals living in large fenced areas so that they can be seen. A distinct area of the lower reaches of the Vitrupe River, with small sandstone cliffs and many rare species of plants and molluscs. Visitors can visit the Ķirbiži Forest Museum and its information and botany trail. It weaves along both banks of the river and allows people to look at the most typical examples of flora in the region. The noble Vāloži oak tree is a key element there.

Medinski Vincīši boulder also called Magoņkalns (Poppy hill). Red rapakivi granite boulder is found
in the tree cluster only 40 m to the left of Jaunviļāni – Medinski road and about 40 m from the right side of
the river Malta. The boulder is 6,6 m long, 5,4 m wide and 3,3 m high. The circuit of the boulder is 20 m
and the volume 40 – 45 m3.

The rock has a circumference of 31.1 metres, and it is 3.5 metres high, 10.5 metres long and 10.4 metres wide for a total size of 170 m3. |

The Vecročupe river flows out of the artificial Vaide pond. It was created by blocking the Vaide and the Kukšupe rivers. This happened during the Soviet occupation, when forestry people decided to establish a fishing pond and an area for recreations. A wooden pergola has been installed at the pond, and there is an information stand, as well. On the northern shore of the pond is the Vaide cemetery, which dates back to 1928 and has interesting wooden crosses. |

The owner produces honey and related products such as pollen and propolis, honey wine, and an alcoholic beverage called “Bee’s Kiss.” You can take a tour of the beekeeping operations and purchase the products. |

This is actually a group of nine craters, and some of them are as much as 100 m in diameter and 16 m in depth. This is the most visually expressive meteorite crater in the Baltic States and, indeed, in all of Europe. Remnants of the meteorite – some 2.5 kg in all – yielded iron and nickel. It is thought that this pan-Baltic natural catastrophe occurred 2,600 to 4,000 years ago. Kaali Visitor Centre comprises the meteoritics and limestone museum, a conference hall and a hotel.The museum exhibits genuine meteorite pieces amongst other items. The hotel has all modern conveniences, tasty food is provided at Kaali Tavern nearby. |

The hard-working family of the owner makes smoked ham and bakes bread. The meat is smoked according to local recipes in a self-made smokery, which gives the meat a special smoky taste, while the bread is baked from high-quality whole-grain rye flour. You can purchase bread and ham on Fridays. |

The memorial museum for Edvards Veidenbaums (1867-1892) was established at his homestead, “Kalači.” The great poet and translator lived there from the age of five and also died there. Alongside the museum is an exhibition hall that offers thematic exhibitions. A monument designed by the sculptor Laimonis Blumbergs is in the garden of the museum and was installed in 1961. There is also a granary in which Veidenbaums lived during the summer. The poet was buried in the local Liepa cemetery. |
