The route brings you to Kaunas, multiple Lithuanian regional parks and allows to enjoy the landscapes of the river Nemunas. Kaunas is Lithuania’s second largest city. It is notable for its modernist architecture. The city is located at the confluence of the two largest Lithuanian rivers: Nemunas and Neris. Moving further from Lampėdžiai to Vilkija, the Forest Trail runs for two days along trails and small countryside gravel roads next to the right bank of the river Nemunas. This section is shaped by beautiful landscapes with views of the river, the waterfront meadows and small villages. Do not miss the ferry in Vilkija crossing over the river Nemunas, one of the few still in operation in the Baltic States. For the next two days from Vilkija, the Forest Trail runs through its most spectacular sections in the Dubysa Regional Park from Kirkšnovė to Šiluva with mounds on riverbanks and historical churches now and there. This regional park covers the impressive Dubysa river valley, which reaches a depth of 40 m and a width of up to 500 m. Be prepared for a rolling terrain. Next, the route will take you to the town of Šiluva – the Catholic pilgrimage site – and to the Kurtuvėnai Regional Park. It is among the most forested areas of Central Lithuania; thus, the regional park with its glaciated valleys is a wonderland of forests, waters and wetlands. The Forest Trail leads along small forest paths, tourist trails, beautiful tree alleys and wetlands. The walk ends in Šaukėnai village, from where the city of Šiauliai is easily reached. |

The restaurant is in the centre of Jelgava among residential buildings. It is known for its interesting interior and for the musical and other events that it organises. Latvian cuisine: Farmer’s omelette, roast pork with chanterelles and wild mushrooms, grit risotto, strawberry soup with ice cream, crepes. Special foods: “Kiss from Šarlote” – layered egg-cottage cheese crème and jellied juices. |

The manor is in Basi in the Gudenieki Parish of Kuldīga District, some 20 km from the district centre. The manor was built in the 19th century, burned down in 1905, and then restored. A former residence for servants and an old magazine barn have survived. The surrounding park covers 4.5 ha, and the estate is a cultural and historical monument of local importance. The barn was fully reconstructed in 2009 and 2010 with co-financing from the European Union, and today it is the Basi Culture Centre. In 2019, there is to be an interactive exhibition about Suiti events in Gudenieki -- baptisms, weddings, funerals, etc. |

Located at the Lake Burtnieks southern shore, these are wetland meadows which are regularly flooded and which are important places for various birds, including the corn - crake, to nest. This is part on the environmentallyrestricted area which covers the meadows of Lake Burtnieks. |

During Soviet times, Vaiņode was the site of one of the Soviet Union’s largest military airfields in the Baltic States. During the period of Latvia’s independence, the country’s first dirigibles were based here. Eventually their hangars were dismantled and brought to Rīga, where they were used for the Rīga Central Market. They are still there today. Some of Latvia’s first gliders took off from Vaiņode. During the Soviet occupation, the airfield was home to an air defence and destroyer squadron, with 38 SU-27 “Flanker” destroyers on site. After the restoration of Latvia’s independence, the Vaiņode airfield was dismantled in part, and the big plates of concrete that covered the runways and the rest of the airfield were used to improve the Liepāja port. There are still 16 hangars at the airport, and 1,800 of the formerly 2,500 metres long runway are also still there. Very wide territory for a nature restricted area where extensive forests and several bogs can be found. The territory is important living space for many bird species. Vasenieku bog path with observation tower is the most attractive sites of the restricted area and offers unique landscape of the bog for its visitors. Waterproof shoes are recommended for visitors as the first 500 m of the path is molded turf rampart. Information stands are significant source of information along the path. It is suggested to visit also Stikli (Glass) village where glass factory used to be. Chandelier of Stende church has been made in this factory (by memory of Inese Roze).

Kolga Manor with its impressive territory, several buildings and antique feel will not leave you unmoved! Kolga Manor was first heard about in 13th century but the manor we see nowadays was built style of Baroque in 17 - 18th century but in 1820's it was re-built in the style of Classicism. From the end of 17th century until 20th century it was the biggest Estonian manor. Now in these buildings is a guesthouse, a restaurant, conference centre and a museum. It's possible to hire a guide. |

This wooden pathway will introduce the visitor to a high-type swamp and a unique habitat – a place where sulphur streams flow into the Raganu swamp. The little lakes in the swamp are unique – they are the result of sulphur bacteria, and there is a special range of species in those lakes. The landscape is interesting, and the smell of sulphur pervades, mostly from sulphur ponds. The trail is 800m long and will require 20 minutes to an hour to traverse. The object is on the border of the Zemgale and Vidzeme regions.
