The museum opened in 2007 and displays a 180 mm gun barrel, reconstruction of a Soviet restricted border zone, a civil defence shelter, armoured vehicles, a border guard boat and naval mines. Exhibited in the main building are a maritime surveillance radar in its original position, various military items, “Lenin´s corner” and weapons and barracks rooms. |

The factory produces milk candy “Gotiņa”, toffee, sherbet, marmalade and candy cream from natural ingredients. We obtain fresh milk from local farms; other ingredients for the production process are obtained in the surrounding area. Each piece of candy “Gotiņa” is hand-wrapped. |

The historical centre of the Tāšu Estate is in the Ālande (Telse) River Valley near Lake Tāši. The current estate was built by the von Korff dynasty, and the mansion dates back to 1734. Inside there are valuable Baroque fireplaces, the main entrance portal made of sandstone from Gotland, the original stone floor in the hall, parquet and wall panels. This site has a commemorative stone which speaks to Krišjānis Valdemārs’ achievements in the development of the Latvian state. This used to be the location of the Roja or Lubezere maritime school, and the home for teachers is still there. A private medical practice is in the building right now. The maritime school existed from 1873 to 1915 and was wrecked during World War I. The school trained helmsmen for short-distance trips. Tuition was free, and classes were taught in Latvian. Latvian sailors were known in Russia and abroad, including the Americas. They were respected for their serious approach to their work, their honesty and their loyalty. (Source: Roja TIC) |

This is a large set of coastal meadows, ancient rivers and areas of reeds. It is found at a location where the Daugava River used to flow – between Vecmīlgrāvis and Vecāķi. There are inland dune meadows here, complete with the very rare silver grass. Vecdaugava is an important location for nesting birds and several uncommon plant species. On the southern end of the Vecdaugava peninsula, at a place called Skanstnieki, one can find remnants of medieval Swedish fortifications. The Vecdaugava Regional Research and Fishing Museum is here, as well.

This cycling route will take you from Riga along the West coast of the Baltic Sea of Latvia and Lithuania. On the way the route passes the sea resort Jurmala with 19th century wooden archicture, the picturesque Abava river valley, geologicaly interesting steep banks of Jūrkalne, historically exiting city of Liepaja with great ambience and charming Kuldiga with the widest waterfall in Europe. In Lithuania the route goes through Palanga where Amber Museum is located and culminates at the National Park of the Curonian Spit with 60m high sand dune. |

The museum was established in 1954 and features the traditions of Latvian and Livonian fishermen, sailors and farmers and their lives and residences. There are fishermen’s homesteads with net huts, smokehouses, granaries, etc. There is a collection of fishing boats and the largest assemblage of anchors in the Baltic States (more than 100 anchors, the heaviest one weighing 22 tonnes). The windmill was transported from the Užava Parish. The 19th century Smiltnieki home features authentic household objects. The newest thing at the museum is the Lielirbe Baptist Prayer House, which is nearly 100 years old. A narrow-gauge railroad runs down the 1.3 km Mountain line from May 1 to October 31 every year, and at its end is its turntable. The building of the museum was designed on the basis of the Mazirbe train station. The museum is in the Jūrmala park, with playgrounds for children and the Anchor trail. |

A diverse stand of forest that is bisected by the Vidzeme highway and the Rīga-Lugaži railroad line. This is a place where the largest endangered bird in the world – the European roller – can be found. Between one-quarter and one-fifth of the Latvian population of the crow is found here. This, too, is one of the last nesting places for the green woodpecker.

This is Latvia’s largest lake island and is found in the middle of Lake Usma. The island is restricted to protect old stands of pine, as well as various plants and birds. |
