Ancient legends say that ship sank in the sea near the old cemetery during a storm and during a worship service. The pastor and members of the congregation volunteered to use a rowboat to save the crew of the ship.  Some of the men were rescued, while others were washed ashore.  In honour of this tragic, but also happy solution, the captain called the place Feliksberga, or the Lucky Shore.  Later it became known as Pilsberga, and it was renamed Jūrkalne only in 1925.

The Ziemupe nature restricted territory is on the shore of the Baltic Sea, and it protects a wide variety of coastline biotopes. The distinguished grey dunes are found here, as are various kinds of forest biotopes, some of them quite rare in Latvia. There are many protected plants and animals in the area, too. The Akmensrags lighthouse and several tourist accommodations, like camping Laikas who "Sējējs" award, are in the territory. On the sea shore not far from center of Ziemupe there is well-appointed parking area with information stands.

There are several partly preserved buildings here, but there is a lack of information as to what they were used for. The reason why the buildings are in such sad shape is that people have removed parts of them to use as building materials.

This village appears in historical documents from 1310.  A census in 1582 and 1583 recorded eight farms in the village, while a 1731 census conducted by the Dundaga Estate found only three.  In 1826, each farm had 16 or 17 people, with some 60 in total.  A census in 1935 showed that all 49 Livonians in Saunags spoke the Lithuanian language, but only 11 of them spoke the language at home.  There was a store that was owned by Kārlis Tilmanis, who also owned a factory where sprats were salted.  Also born in Saunags was the seafaring captain Arvīds Ludeviks (1912-1996).  In May 1945, he captained a tugboat, the Rota, in an attempt to bring Latvian refugees to Sweden.  The ship was detained, and the captain was sent to Siberia.  Another seafaring captain from Saunags was Visvaldis Feldmanis (1938-2017).

This former training route runs through the shoreline forests from the northern part of Ventspils (there was once a tank division in Ziemeļu Street there) all the way to Ovīši. Today it is a wide, sandy and overgrown track.

Immaculate Conception of Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church of Nautrēni (Rogovka). The construction works of the brick church lasted from 1901 till 1914. It is an example of Romantesque style. The organ was bought in 1939; it is a national cultural monument.

This little building is on the left bank of the Venta River beyond the ancient brick bridge.  It is located at Pils Street 4.  The hut was built in 1735, using rocks from the damaged castle of the duke, and it was built on a terrace that is the last fragment of the walls that surrounded the castle.  Also known as the Hangman’s hut, the building was rebuilt during the 19th century.  It can only be viewed from the outside.

This was the first estate farm in the Baltic States and is the largest one.  Work is in harmony with nature.  You can purchase various kinds of bread made of natural yeast, fowl and their eggs, ecological beef, milk and dairy products, locally caught fish, traditionally grown vegetables, ecological honey from the local region, as well as various dried, pickled and smoked products.

This is the only Straw Museum in Latvia, with ~370 sculptures and dolls made of straw and hay. Children in particular will love the chance to learn skills related to straw and hay at the creative straw workshop, where specific methodologies have been developed. Varakļānu centrā, Rīgas ielas malā paceļas neliels paugurs, uz kura atrodas balta ēka ar 4 kolonnām un kupolveida jumtu, kas celta pēc Romas Panteona parauga. Kapela būvēta 1814. g. (arhitekts Vinčento Macoti), un tajā atrodas grāfu Borhu dzimtas apbedījumi. Kapelā bija novietoti arī Sv. Viktora pīšļi, kas pārvesti uz Varakļānu katoļu draudzes baznīcu.

Taka ved cauri dažādiem mežu tipiem, iepazīstinot ar sikspārņu būrīšiem (cilvēka radītas sikspārņu dzīves vietas), apkaimes augiem un putniem, kā arī aizsargājamu dabas pieminekli – Pileļu avotu (Pilelio šaltinis).

Relatīvi grūti pieejama un cilvēka mazskarta teritorija kūdrā izstrādātajā Cenas tīreļa ziemeļaustrumu daļā, kur saglabājušies augstā purva biotopi ar purva ezeriem, kas kopumā veido nozīmīgu vietu ligzdojošām un migrējošām zosveidīgo, tārtiņveidīgo u.c. putnu sugām. Teritorija nav piemērota (un nav vēlams) tūrisma aktivitātēm.

The cave, which is 45 m deep and up to 5.5 m wide is found on the right bank of the Strīķupe river, by the Cēsis-Lenči road. The cave and its nearby sandstone cliff have suffered much damage from local visitors, which is why the administrators of the national park limited access to the surrounding territory a few years ago. You can no longer approach the cave. This is a positive example of who an important geological monument and a protected biotope can be protected.
