To view the Daugava River from a different perspective, visit the Liepkalni bakery, which offers tours in a Viking longboat that is called “Lāčplēsis” and can carry up to 24 people. The Daugava has always been an important transport corridor for many species and animals that arrived in Latvia because of that, as well as for people and tribes that lived along the banks of the Daugava River and the shores of the Baltic Sea. |

Daugavas aizsargdambju būvniecību Jēkabpilī uzsāka pēc 1981. gada lielajiem paliem, kad ūdens līmenis pārsniedza kritisko - 6,3 m atzīmi un pakāpās līdz rādījumam „8,7 metri”. Šo plūdu laikā puse pilsētas klāja Daugavas ūdeņi. 2011. gada vasarā notika plašāki dambja atjaunošanas un labiekārtošanas darbi. Pie tā uzstādīja laternas, soliņus, izveidoja pastaigu promenādi un piemiņas zīmi Daugavas kreisajā krastā, kas parāda maksimālo plūdu līmeni. Uz aizsargdambja Daugavas labajā krastā ir izvietoti informatīvie stendi, kur var uzzināt daudz interesantus faktus par pilsētas vēsturi. Dambji ir piemērota vieta, kur fotografēt vai gleznot pilsētas ainavas. |

This is a unique small town in a certain sense, and it is the only one in the Baltic States which has remained in place since the 17th and 18th century. The town is around the small Alekšupīte River, and in some places the stream runs along the walls of the buildings. Because of this fact and the many bridges that are in town, Kuldīga has become known as “the Venice of Latvia.” Baznīcas, Liepājas, Kalna and other streets are full of interesting cultural monuments. |

"Valgums" is a word referring to the sandy coastline zone between dunes and water, and once there were boats and nets that were being dried at this location. The mansion of the Gārsene Estate is built in the Neo-Gothic style, and its design was based on a villa in Germany. The building was erected between 1856 and 1860, and from then until 1920, the baronial dynasty of the Budbergs and Beningshausens owned it. The castle was expanded with another wing in 1885. Between 1939 and 1940, the building was rebuilt to become a school, and President Kārlis Ulmanis attended its opening on June 2, 1940, when he was taking his last official trip as the country’s president. There are other buildings and a park on the estate. The mansion today is home to the Gārsene Elementary School, but there is also an exhibition featuring the baronial dynasty, the history of the school, and the town itself. Just wait until you see the pot-bellied stoves! Outside the mansion are the Gārsene nature trails – the cultural and historical trail, the baronial strolling trail, etc. Before setting off, buy a ticket at the mansion. In front of the mansion is a memorial stone to Professor Pēteris Kulitāns (1878-1951), who was an agro-chemist. |

Altja village in Lahemaa National Park was first recorded in writing in 1465. It is a typical seaside village with houses along one street. The open-air museum was proposed in 1992 by the sculptor Ojārs Arvīds Feldbergs, and it is located on the banks of the Ancient Abava River valley and on land that was once part of the Firkspedvāle and Briņķpedvāle estates. The park features contemporary art, and the museum also organises symposiums, creative workshops and other events. |
