There may have been nuclear warheadsCaptain Opmanis, just out of interest, checked the manometer of one of the aircraft cabins and, much to his surprise, found a considerably higher level of background radiation. Interestingly, there was no additional radiation on the screen of the manometer. Apparently there were radioactive elements inside it.

A nuclear bomb at the Tukums airfield?!..was in a restaurant when he got into a conversation with a high-ranking officer who proudly told him that a little “present” had been left behind for the Latvians – a nuclear warhead buried at a depth of 30 metres. After 12 years, the packaging around the warhead will be gone, and then Latvians will get a huge burst of radiation.

A Military Airfield at TukumsSigns were put up warning of fire danger so as to mask the weapons from the eyes of curious civilians. Local residents probably thought that fuel, not missiles, were being transported.
