This set of buildings represents a homestead for a fisherman and a farmer. The house was built in 1926, and the ancillary buildings all date back to the first half of the 20th century. The homestead can be seen from the road. |

Built in the 18th century and rebuilt in the mid-19th
century, the parsonage was the place where the Liv flag was first consecrated. Renovations
of the parsonage are underway at this time. Since September 2009, it has been used
by the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church as a rest home for its Recollection Centre.

The owner will tell you a humorous story of life with goats in Latvia and Europe, the story of making goat cheese and the secrets of its taste, will invite you to try cheese which you will be able to buy later. From Riga the route goes to the goats farm where to enjoy funny and cute animals and try exclusive cheeses. Then visit Mālpils Manor and taste the selection of local cheeses made from cows' milk. Afterwards the route turns towards Daugava river to Skriveri for some gorgeous home made ice-cream and traditional hand-made toffees "Gotiņa". Further on head to the legendary Koknese castle ruins. Next day the route goes to the ethnographic working farmstead located in picturesque spot of Jaunpiebalga and family cheese and macaroni production in Rauna. Nearby there are clay production established within the former brick factory where the hand-made ceramics creation can be observed. Then sightseeing in Cesis with its old town and medieval Livonian Order Castle. Further on the route goes to hemp growing farm where to taste them prepared traditional way. Then you have an excursion and tasting at the Rujiena ice-cream factory. Stay at the former mill where ancient wool processing equipment are still used and can be seen. Heading back to Riga the route follows the coast line. Visit the museum of the biggest liar in the world - Munchausen, where you are entertained with his fantastic adventure stories, visit the lamprey fishermen and have a stroll on sandy beach. |

Work on the arboretum, which covers 15 hectares of land, began in 1968, and it was meant to be a landscape park. The first plants were planted in 1972. During the fierce winter of 1976, sadly, many of the plants froze. In 1987, the park was redesigned. At that time it had 234 types of deciduous trees, coniferous trees and bushes. The restaurant is situated in the centre of Rezekne city, alongside the Rēzekne University College in a building with vaulted cellars. The restaurant has an interesting interior design and its menu is developed according to the seasons of the year. There is no need to enter the bog to see it, there are good views from the highway Ventspils – Riga (77 km, bus stop “Pagrieziens uz Elkskeni”). The main value of restricted area is chalky fen bog with brown bog-rush (greatest habitat finding in Latvia). Be careful when stopping on the highway – mind the traffic! A couple of kilometers towards Riga, on the right side of the highway, there is sign to Grizu Velna kresls ( Grizu Devil Chair) which is an attractive boulder (protected).

This tour of the Forest Trail covers the national parks of Dzūkija and Žemaitija and the Nemunas Loops Regional Park in Lithuania. The starting point of the route is Druskininkai, a popular SPA and mineral water resort on the banks of the river Nemunas. Here, we recommend dipping yourself in mineral water baths, enjoying the trip with the cable car over the river Nemunas, visiting the musical fountain, and walking along the river promenade. For the next two days from Druskininkai, the Forest Trail passes through the Dzūkija National Park to the town of Merkinė. In this most forested and unpopulated region in Lithuania you can enjoy hiking along solitary forest roads, visit ancient mounds and ethnographic villages, where the traditions of bee-keeping, crafts, mushrooms and berry harvesting are still kept alive. You will then head to Birštonas, one of the key resorts in Lithuania with its valuable mineral waters. The town finds itself in the Nemunas Loops Regional Park, which includes four large and one smaller loops of the river. The Forest Trail stretches from Birštonas through the entire Nemunas Loops Regional Park up till the town of Prienai. Next, hikers will get to Kaunas, the second largest city in Lithuania and its former capital city. Kaunas is notable for its modernist architecture. The catchment area of the river Nemunas and the river Neris is situated here. Heading on, from Lampėdžiai to Vilkija, the Forest Trail runs for two days along trails and small countryside gravel roads next to the right bank of the river Nemunas, also crossing resort territory of Kulautuva. This section is characteristic of beautiful riverscapes, waterfront meadows and small villages. For the final section, first you must get to the Žemaitija National Park, where the Forest Trail runs around the Lake Plateliai, which is the largest lake in the historic Samogitian region. This is a lovely place in Sigulda which has been painted (as the word "gleznotāji", which means "painters" suggests) and photographed for centuries. This is basically not a hill at all, it's just the place where the shore of the ancient Gauja River valley is split by the mighty Vējupīte ravine. You will have an excellent view of the Turaida Castle and the river valley. There are leisure facilities and a viewing platform there. You can ride to Paradīze hill via an electric car. |

Īdeņa graveyard chapel has Catholic church services. Īdeņa chapel was built in 1898 by the foundation
of dean Smilgevičs. The church is devoted to the honor of the Holy Cross. The chapel has a small bell tower
and the weatherboards. You shouldn’t miss the chapel’s special celebration that is the indulgences of St.
Francis of Assisi, stigmata day in September 17.

The farm offers a look at angora rabbits, which are very uncommon in Latvia. The owner offers tours, stories, rabbit wool, wool products such as mittens and socks, breeding rabbits and consultations. Children will love the animals and can feed them in the presence of the owner. |

Some 250 deer graze on 100 ha of land in the Umurga Parish. The farm also offers a look at peacocks, rabbits, sheep, goats and a pony. Biological products are on sale, and visitors are welcome all year round.
