In the studio it is possible to buy or order different craftsmanship items, as well as to learn about craftsmanship process. The studio specializes in creating folk costumes, weaving and all sorts of handicrafts, creating jewellery, patchwork, sewing and silk painting. It is possible to see the crafts’ exhibition and buy souvenirs.

The museum is located in Pilkuse manor farm, exhibits on display are carts, carriages and sleighs along with accessories from horse collars to lap robes. Military, emergency and fire brigade carts are extraordinary and rare while a coach and a calash (barouche) are exhibits to be really proud of. Numerous agricultural tools and equipment also ensure hours of excitement and discovery in the museum.

Regīna Kalniņa is one of the best known craftswomen in Kurzeme. She weaves blankets and shawls and knits colourful mittens. She also sews Rucava and Nīca folk costumes. This territory protects the shore of the onetime Baltic lake of ice, which most significant part stretches for 10 kilometres on the eastern side of the Grobiņa-Ventspils highway from Kapsēde till Vērgale bus stop. From the top of this ancient shoreline there is a lovely view of the Piejūra lowlands, but no specific viewing areas or information stands have been installed. The mansion of the Gārsene Estate is built in the Neo-Gothic style, and its design was based on a villa in Germany. The building was erected between 1856 and 1860, and from then until 1920, the baronial dynasty of the Budbergs and Beningshausens owned it. The castle was expanded with another wing in 1885. Between 1939 and 1940, the building was rebuilt to become a school, and President Kārlis Ulmanis attended its opening on June 2, 1940, when he was taking his last official trip as the country’s president. There are other buildings and a park on the estate. The mansion today is home to the Gārsene Elementary School, but there is also an exhibition featuring the baronial dynasty, the history of the school, and the town itself. Just wait until you see the pot-bellied stoves! Outside the mansion are the Gārsene nature trails – the cultural and historical trail, the baronial strolling trail, etc. Before setting off, buy a ticket at the mansion. In front of the mansion is a memorial stone to Professor Pēteris Kulitāns (1878-1951), who was an agro-chemist.

Found on the right bank of the Daugava where the little Karikste river flows into the Daugava, all that remains of the castle today is a set of ruined walls and foundations.  The castle was built by the Livonian Order in 1224, and it was inhabited until the mid-17th century, when it was sacked during the Polish-Swedish war.  The ruins offer a good view of the local gravel road that goes along the right bank of the river valley.

This is a part of Latvia in which various manifestations related to layers of earth made up of water-soluble lime can be found. The most unusual elements here are Lake Vecezers and Lake Linezers. The water of the latter lake has flowed underground several times over the last few decades, with the remaining lake hole as much as nine metres deep. No one can fully explain how this happens. A tourist trail encircles Lake Linezers.

The church was opened in 1651 after half a century of sometimes interrupted construction.  It was fully rebuilt and took on its current appearance in 1876.  The church contains one of the most important church objects in Latvia – the oldest pulpit in the country (1590).  It was designed in the style of Mannerism.  The church also has a bell from a wrecked chapel of the local knighthood.  The bell was manufacture in 1450 and was installed at the church in the 19th century.  It is the oldest church bell in Latvia.  The German painter F. Wolff painted the altar painting, “Christ on the Cross,” and it, along with the altar, have recently been restored.

The Sutru Berry Garden is in the Sutru Parish in the Līvāni Administrative District.  It grows blackberries in tunnels, which means that the berries ripen far more quickly than elsewhere in Latvia.  You can purchase berries on site.

Starpiņupīte is an artificial canal between Lake Kaņieris and the Bay of Rīga. It helps to regulate the water level in the lake with a system of locks. This is a fine place for bird­watching in the spring and autumn. From the sea, the location can be identified via the place where the little river flows into the sea.
