This is Latvia’s largest lake island and is found in the middle of Lake Usma. The island is restricted to protect old stands of pine, as well as various plants and birds.

The saloon is on the edge of the Murjāņi-Valka road (A3) and is easily recognised because of the building and various fairy tale characters in the yard.

Latvian cuisine: Cold soups (beet, bean, sauerkraut, sorrel), roast leg of pork, blood sausage, pork ribs, berry dessert with toasted oats, stacked rye bread.

Special foods: “Fiery Soup of the Ragana Kitchen”.

This territory was established so as to preserve the natural and cultural landscape of the most distinct part of the Alūksne highlands – a landscape which is made up of the highest hillocks in the area – Dēliņkalns Hill, Dieva Hill, Saules Hill, the Drusku castle hill, and the Kornetu-Peļļu sub-glacial river bed (one of the most significant terrain differences in Latvia). There are lakes, too – Lake Pilskalns, Lake Dzērve, Lake Ieva, Lake Raipals, etc. There are also significant biotopes – hillside and gully forests, various kinds of swamps and meadows, damp forests, etc., all with their own species of flora and fauna. There are nature trails and tracks for cross-country and downhill skiing in the area. There are three restricted natural areas in the territory – Korneti-Peļļi, the Avotu forest, and Dēliņkalns Hill.

“Saules veltes” ir mājas vīna darītava Salaspilī, kas nodarbojas ar mājas vīnu, liķieru un degvīnu gatavošanu. The café is in the former administrative building of a collective farm in the centre of Gaigalava.  It cooks dishes with ingredients from its own farm and others.
Latvian cuisine: Bean soup with pearl barley, sauerkraut soup, pea soup, beet leaf soup, sorrel soup, fish soup made with tench or carp, ribs, roasts, false rabbit, oven-baked carp, dried fish, cottage cheese crème with berry sauce, baked apples with vanilla sauce, woven roulettes, dried fruit, quince candies.
Special foods: Bean pancakes.

The farmstead "Vitolini" specializes in horse breeding, as well as horse-riding lessons. It is possible to go horse-riding in the forest or to take a ride in a horse team.

The farm makes goat’s milk cheese and other goat’s milk products. Goats, sheep, rabbits and domestic birds are bred here. You can purchase products by ordering in advance, excursions on the farm are organised during summer.

Atrodas ~ 0,4 km no Latvijas – Lietuvas robežas, Sventājas ielejas labā krasta nogāzē. Atrodama informācija, ka avotu tīrot, atklājusies 5 x 5 m ozolkoka „grīda”. Avots ir labiekārtots – virs tā slejas lapene ar niedru jumtu. Vēl pavisam nesen pie tā auga Latvijas dižākā ieva (nolūza), kuras vietā tagad kuplo biezs atvašu pulks.
