The owner offers groups of various sizes a chance to go to the sea in a fisherman’s boat and to watch shoreline fishing, as well. The lamprey eel weirs that are on the Svētupe River differ from those on the Salaca River in terms of their structure and the fishing principles. During the season, the owner prepares tasty smoked lamprey eels. |

This is another important territory for the protection of reefs, is also opposite the Salacgrīva Administrative District, and covers 7,239 hectares.

This is one of the few places in the world where lamprey eels are caught at the industrial level and with a fishing method that has been used for the past 150 years – a weir that stretches across the river and has creels along it. There are three weirs in all on the Salaca River. A local fisherman will teach you about the process and allow you to taste and purchase roast lampreys. |

This area is full of coastline meadows, lagoons, muddy little lakes and sandy shallows, all full of reeds. This area of the eastern shore of the Bay of Rīga is found between Ainaži and Kuiviži. The Randa meadows are an enormously important location for water birds and rare plants – some 500 in all. A new bird-watching tower and a nature trail have been established for those who wish to study the meadows.

Along the A9 road and 500 metres from the turn in the direction of Rīga in Lestene is a memorial by Ojārs Feldbergs which was set up in 1991 in the former Rumbas homestead to commemorate defenders of the Kurzeme fortress. Despite the fact that the Soviet forces were ten times larger, the Latvian troops allowed some 300,000 Latvian war refugees to escape the horrors of the Soviet Union. |

The Neļķes cliffs are in Skaņākalns Park, and they offer the most beautiful view of the Salaka River valley, with its sandstone cliffs and peaceful river. There are good views from the “devil’s pulpit.” It’s worth visiting the Skaņamkalns Hill to check out the views from the famous echo cliff. This is part of the ZBR.

The narrow gauge rail line between Alūksne and Gulbene has tracks that are 750 mm wide and was once part of a rail line between Stukmaņi and Valka. Today it is the only passenger train on a narrow gauge railroad in Latvia, offering services every day. The Alūksne station was opened in 1903, and 33 km line with 10 stations and other stop scan be covered in approximately 90 minutes. A festival is held each year -- one that is very popular among fans of small trams. |

The Cesvaine Castle is one of Latvia’s most beautiful castles. Built in the style of Eclecticism, it is said to have been presented by its owner, Adolf von Wulff, to his wife. The castle was built between 1893 and 1896. On the banks of the Sūla River alongside the castle is the Cesvaine Park, including the afforested Cesvaine castle hill. The Cesvaine castle roof reconstruction is complete! Visitors may tour the castle accompanied by a Cesvaine Tourism Centre guide. Restoration of the castle interior will ccontinue throughout 2020. On the first day visit a farm specialised in goat breeding and making exclusive cheese, a farm which grows and processes hemp in several generations, berry and fruit grower as well as traditional lamprey fishermen. Next day have a master-class with famous chefs in the restaurant in Riga where these ingredients will be used to prepare first class meals. |
