After a big storm in 2005, the nature trail of the Randu meadows was restored. It is about 4 km long, and there is a bird-watching tower which offers a fine view of unique shoreline meadows with small lagoons and areas of reeds. It is a fine place to watch migrating birds. This is part of the Northern Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve (ZBR).

This restricted area was established to protect a high-type swamp, a swampy forest and a series of rare birds. The Niedrāji-Pilka swamp can be crossed with dry feet while enjoying almost virginal nature. This is possible on the narrow-gauge railroad embankment which runs through the swamp for three to four kilometres from the North-east to the South-west, or on the well-appointed circular wood pathway which is on the eastern size of the embankment.

Saimnieki Aivars, Ārija un Līga Urbasti šobrīd audzē 1,6 ha vasaras un rudens avenes, arī nelielās platībās zemenes uz lauka un segtās platībās, siltumnīcā. Zemenes no "Mežnorām" parasti pieejamas laikā no maija vidus līdz oktobra vidum. "Mežnorās " audzē vasaras avenes "Norna", rudens avenes "Babje ļeto", “Polana”, populāro zemeņu šķirni “Polka”. No savā dārzā audzētajām ogām (upenes, jāņogas, ķirši, zemenes u.c.) Aivars gatavo mājas vīnu: "Mežnoru vīns pilnībā sākās Mežnorās. Tas piedzimst nevis mucās, bet sākas mūsu zemeņu vai aveņu laukā, un tās ir daudz dziļākas saknes, kas atstāj pēdas arī garšā”.

This area was established to protect the cultural and lake-related landscapes of the central section of the Vidzeme highlands, with Lake Alauksts, Lake Inesis, Lake Tauns, etc., with their species and biotopes.  There are many important cultural objects in this territory – the Vecpiebalga Lutheran Church, the Vecpiebalga castle ruins, the Vecpiebalga baronial estate, as well as locations where several distinguished figures from the Latvian world of culture have lived and worked.  Memorial museums have been established to commemorate them.  The lakes are great for fishing, and cross-country competitions are traditionally held in the area of Lake Alauksts during the winter.  The Sproģi nature reserve has been established on the islands and peninsula of Lake Inesis.

Ungurmuižas  iekštelpās ir grezni zīmējumi (grenadieri, ziedu motīvi, zīmētas tapetes, drapēri, ainas no barona karagājieniem un ceļojumiem) kuru autors ir Limbažu gleznotājs Georgs Dītrihs Hinšs. There are ancient cheese-making traditions in Cesvaine, where the Cesvaines Dairy was established on the basis of the historical Cesvaine Estate dairy operation.  The company produces butter, cottage cheese, cheese, home cheese and soured cream.  The “Pie Arkas” store that is alongside the dairy sells those products.

Our Story 
The cidery is located in an ancient stone building in Valka region, next to the ruins of an old Livonian Order castle.

Apples  
Mūrbūdu Cider always strives to do something new and unprecedented, using fruit and berries that are locally sourced from the surrounding area as much as possible.

Ciders  
Experiments with flavours (honey, berries, ginger, and spices) and cider-making methods (aging in oak bourbon barrels, malolactic acid fermentation, fermentation with beer yeast) result in a diverse range of ciders, allowing for the discovery of new and exciting flavours and cider styles. Not all experiments are successful, but the best ones always reach the customers.

For Visitors 
The cidery offers tours with tastings and themed masterclasses led by the owner, as well as the option to create custom programmes.

Mūrbūdu Ciders can be purchased in stores such as Rimi, Eirovīns, Spirits&Wine, at the Limonāde bar, and at the Sidrērija taproom in the Old Town of Riga.

Near the Priedīši homestead, there is a nature trail which allows visitors to study Lake Dziļezers and the surroundings. There are various lakes in this region which are found in a depression left behind by the Ice Age – Lake Dziļezers, Lake Riebezers, Lake Mazezers, Lake Auziņš, Lake Skuja and Lake Bruņķītis are all there. Along their shores, there are various kinds of forests, including ones with broadleaf trees that are under environmental protection. The trail is 3km in length and will take an hour or so to traverse. This is a part of the environmentally restricted territory of Lake Dziļezers and Lake Riebezers.

The “Aizvēji” guest house is located only 50 km from Riga and 200 m from the sandy shore of Vidzeme seaside, in a quiet and beautifully landscaped environment. Santa Lasmane owns a farm near Lake Jumurda and manufactured goat’s cheese from 40 dairy goats (60 goats in all).  You can buy the cheese there and at local markets.  Products are delivered on demand.  You can tour the farm, meeting Bonija the goat and her friends, and taste the cheese.
