The Baltic Coastal Hiking Route starts at the center of Mazirbe village where you can see the Livonian National House. Continuing through small forest and country roads past the former Mazirbe Naval school, it winds through small coastal Livonian villages: Košrags, Pitrags and then Saunags. The Livonian coast is the only place where you can get to know the cultural history heritage of one of the smallest peoples in the world, the Livonians. In this section, the indicating signs are in both the Latvian and Livonian language. At the end of route you will see Cape Kolka, the point where the Great Wave Sea meets the Little Wave Sea. It is one of the most popular bird-watching sites on the Baltic seacoast. |

The legendary blue hills of Šlītere have been known since ancient days, when pirates lit false campfires that led ships to run aground near Cape Kolka. The shoreline in the Slītere National Park is known as the open-air geological museum of the Baltic Sea, because the ancient shores of the Baltic ice sea, Lake Ancylus, and dunes from Littorina Sea can be seen here. These offer a fine view of the history of the Baltic Sea. The territory was historically populated by the Liv people, and their fishing villages are a cultural environment of one of the smallest ethnic minorities in the world. The route between Kolka and Mazirbe goes down the old shore road that passes through Liv villages. The Slītere National Park has one of the greatest amounts of plants in Latvia, while Cape Kolka is one of the country’s most popular bird watching sites. On the banks of the Venta River is a treasure of wooden architecture – the so-called Bangerts Villa, which relates to romantic stories and legends and was recently restored. It is said that a man known as Captain Bangerts bought the villa as a gift to present to his Parisian bride. The Kuldīga Administrative District Museum has been in the building since 1940. Since reconstruction, unique wall paintings and other interior design details have been restored, and the flat of the Bangerts family allows people to see how wealthy residents of the city lived in the early 20th century. Also on display are some of the sets of playing cards that have been collected by Jānis Mētra. |

Metsavenna Farm organises forest brethren (or brothers) expeditions for visitors to search out forest brothers in their hideouts, visit an underground bunker, hear true stories of life after WWII, have a taste of home-brew and sing old songs along with the master. The more adventurous can stay a night in the bunker, while in winter a sledding hill is opened for snowy downhill rides. |

Kaltene features several homes where shipbuilders used to live – Caurnāši, which was home to the Bertliņi family, Ilmati, where six ailing ships were built, Maizītes, where the Stahl family of ship builders built 16 two-mast and three-mast ships, and Dambekalni, which was once one of the first canned fish factories on the coastline. To the side of the sea are the old boat piers of Kaltene. In 1936, a board pier was built by the Freijs family from Roja. It was 200 m long and had room for some 50 boats. All that is left are wooden poles that have been eaten away by the sea and time. Located at Daugavas Street 58 in Skrīveri, this was the first home of the Andrejs Upītis (1877-1970). It was built in 1908, but the one that is there now was built on the foundations of the first one in 1921. The building houses a museum which features the life and work of the writer, including the writing his great novel “The Green Earth.” There is a garden around the building. In 1952, Upītis gifted the house and garden to the state. The museum offers tours and educational programmes. |

Ворота (1688 г., отреставрированы в 1954 г.) служили в качестве сторожевой башни сквозных ворот Приекульской господской усадьбы, где проводился досмотр торговцев (таможня), отправляющихся или приезжающих из Литвы. Интерес представляет родовой герб баронов Корфов выполненный в XVIII веке из голландского песчаника, с серебряным ядром и своеобразный маскарон в центральной части фасада. Во времена баронов в нишах по обеим сторонам стояли двухметровые, выполненные в камне, грозного вида фигуры стражников - солдат. Сегодня на их месте стоят деревянные фигуры стражников. |

The organic farm Zemturi is a 30 min drive from Kuldiga. The farm is mainly engaged in breeding rabbits and is designed as a place for children to see, learn about rabbits, birds and other pets. The hosts have created two thematic trails, one for pets and poultry and the other for trees and flowers. Sauna lovers have access to the sauna, also fishing opportunities can be used. The "Stender's" bar is situated in the centre of the city of Kuldiga at the start of Liepājas Street, which is the main pedestrian and biking thoroughfare in Kuldīga. The two-story wood building was once a granary and is of architectural importance. The bar is situated on the second floor of the building, with the lowest door jambs in Kuldiga and wooden shears in the bar. The territory has been established for protection of the bog and its habitat species. It is not appropriate for visits. North-east part of the bog can be slightly seen from the road Neveja – Lapmezciems on winter season. Further on Cirste direction is located on of most impressive oak trees in Latvia – Rigzemju ozols.

Šeit apglabāti ~ 23 000 cīņās par Kurzemes cietoksni jeb Kurzemes katlu (1945. g. pavasaris) kritušie Sarkanās armijas karavīri. Memoriāla centrā novietots12 m augsts Mātes - dzimtenes tēls, bet uz granīta plāksnēm iegravēti kritušo vārdi, starp kuriem ir atrodami arī daudzi mūsu zemes un kaimiņvalstu dēlu vārdi un uzvārdi. |

The so-called Christmas battles between the Russian and the German military took place in 1916, during World War I. Latvian riflemen demonstrated such courage and heroism during these battles that they became known far beyond Latvia’s borders. Machine Gun Hill now has a memorial to the Latvian riflemen. The viewing tower on the hill has been restored. The Maztīrelis swamp and the place where the German narrow-gauge railroad used to run can be seen well from the hill. The rail tracks crossed the swamp from the North to the South, and the rows of trees in the swamp show where they were.
Visiting the object: You can hike the area with or without a guide. The Christmas battle museum at the Mangaļi homestead offers thematic and educational events, as well as mock battles. You can look at monuments, graves, trenches, fortifications, dugouts, etc.
The Mangaļi homestead is home to Latvia’s largest mock-up of a battle site. There are unique elements of fortifications from World War I here – ones that are related to the Christmas battles. One part of the fortifications has been reconstructed in its original location – the dugout and a part of the so-called “German rampart” that was part of the front line of the German fortifications.

The Boulder of Purmaļi is the biggest boulder in Rēzekne district and one of the 20 biggest boulders in
Latvia. It is located on the escarpment surrounded by the trees and the bushes. Perimeter 18,5 m, height 3,2 m,
lenght 5,6 m, width 4,7, surface volume 30 m3.
