Participants in this tour will learn about Latvia’s most modern crop farms that are typical in Zemgale. During the first day, participants will meet with specialists from the Latvian Agriculture Ministry and agricultural NGOs. They will also tour Rīga, which is part of the UNESCO List of World Heritage, and the Rīga Central Market, which is one of the largest closed markets of its type in Europe. Participants will visit a health food store and have dinner to enjoy traditional Latvian foods and beers. The next day we will go to Jelgava, where the 18th-century castle of the Duchy of Courland and Zemgale will host a meeting with faculty members from the Latvian Agricultural University, which is housed in the palace. We will visit a biologic bakery, as well as a farm that engages in crop farming, livestock breeding and manufacturing of biogas. An artificial wetland is used to purify runoff water. Dinner will be served at a modern leisure complex. On the third day, we will visit one of the largest multi-sectoral farms in Zemgale. It specialises in plant farming, livestock breeding, horse breeding, biogas manufacturing and beer brewing. During the afternoon, we will visit the largest and technologically most modern grain farm in the region, after which we will tour the most outstanding castle in the Baltic States – the Rundāle Castle. Built as a summer residence for Duke Ernst Johann Bieron, the castle was designed by the distinguished Italian architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli. Dinner will be served at a venue that has an historical windmill and an exhibition related to grain farming. On the morning of the fourth day, we will visit a farm that grows grains for seed, and then a biological farm that produces wheat, barley, peas, beans, rapeseed, herbs and herbal teas. Lunch will be served at a farm that will offer dishes made of home-grown grains and rough-milled flour. Then we will return to Rīga. |

There are records to show that there has been a church at this location since the 17th century, and the current one was built between 1792 and 1794 by the chief construction specialist of the city of Rīga, Christopher Haberland. He designed the cupola-shaped building, with the cupola ensuring good acoustics inside the building. The altar is opposite the entrance door. Between the columns of the building is an altar painting showing Christ and St Peter on a storm-ravaged sea. Other important objects include chalices from the 18th or 19th century, candelabras, etc. The building was restored in 2014. To the South from it is the Katlakalns cemetery, which is the final resting place of the distinguished Baltic German writer Garlieb Merkel (1769-1850). He was of great importance in ensuring the end of indentured servitude in Latvia. |

Kaunas Castle is the oldest stone castle in Lithuania and interestingly enough, the museum that is inside is also the oldest one in Lithuania. The origins of the castle that was built in the style of Classicism date back to 1784. Later it was rebuilt into a two-story building with a portico with four columns at its centre. A new period in the development of the state began in 1993, when restoration of the buildings began. The estate currently houses a children’s village, while the mansion is now a hotel.

The Zasa park is an estate park that is on the shores of the little Zasa River near the Zasa millpond (toward the North of Zasa). The landscape park dates back to the 18th century and is in the style of Romanticism. The park was installed when the mansion of the Zasa Estate was built. It was owned by Heinrich von Zass, after whom the Zasulauks neighbourhood of Rīga is named. When ownership of the estate changed in the 19th century, the Zasa Estate was seen as one of the wealthiest and most beautiful estates in the region. It is worth hiking through the vast park with its many bridges, the Werewolf tree, the Devil’s rock and a sacred stream. In 1877, Baron August von Pistohlkors, celebrating the merits of his ancestors in the foundation and development of Neibāde, ordered a monument to be erected in the park. After World War I, in the early 1930s, the monument was accidentally found during the cleaning of the bed of the River Ķīšupe. The monument was renovated by the Neibāde Aid and Improvement Society and officially reopened in 1933. The monument also suffered damage after World War II. Now the monument is restored and located in the park of the open-air stage. |

The chef's house is located in the former Līgatne Maternity Hospital "Wilhelma". It is intended as a place for chefs as well as other interested parties to do, create and experiment. The author of the idea is chef Ēriks Dreibants. The aim of this place is to encourage you to explore and discover the unique tastes and experiences of our region. The chef's house supports the slow food philosophy and the surrounding farmers and producers. Next to the house there is a Nature Observers' Garden, where there is a playground "Nest in the Tree", a magnifying glass for a closer look at the elements of nature, and a picnic area with a fireplace. There is an herb garden in the garden, fruit trees and berry bushes have been compiled, but in the center of it, next to the Bird Watching Square, there is a Butterfly Meadow. |
