Plavinas and Stukmani region was inhabited already in the third century. During the Polish-Swedish War (1600-1629) at estuary of Aivekste in the Daugava River the Swedish war camp was formed, from which are preserved fortifications - bastions. They are one of the most impressive military formations of this kind in Latvia. Plavinas as a larger populated area started to develop in the nineties of the 19th century and in the beginning of 20th century after the construction of railway. Today Plavinas are more commonly known with dolomite production sites and spring flood area.

Vecpiebalgas vecajos kapos (Vecpiebalgas austrumdaļā, pa ceļam uz "Saulrietiem" un "Vēveriem") apskatāms piemineklis, kas veltīts brāļu Kaudzīšu romāna "Mērnieku laiki" personāžam - Lienai. Piemineklis uzstādīts 1987. g. (tēlniece M. Baltiņa). Pirms ceļojuma atkal ir jāpāršķirsta "Mērnieku laiki"!

On the banks of Little Lake Ludza is a farm with a house, windmill, threshing barn and the workshop of the Lettigalian ceramicist Polikarps Vilcāns.  Various events related to craftsmanship and culture are organised there.

The Ķemeri water tower was built in 1929 and used to be a reservoir for drinking and mineral water. Until World War II, there was a viewing platform at a height of 42 metres from which one could see the surroundings of Ķemeri.

(V-1279) linked Kuldīga and Alsunga before a new road was built.  The lovely gravel road weaves through forests and farmland.  During appropriate weather, it can be used as an alternative road to learn about the landscapes of the Suiti region.  You can also bike down the road.

The trail informs visitors about one of the loveliest natural habitats in Latvia – a moss or high swamp.  The path is in the Stiklu swamp nature reserve and passed through lovely swamp lakes, plants and animals, and the degraded part of the swamp.  At the middle of the path is a bird watching tower that can be climbed.

This is the only viewing platform of its kind. It is north of Pāvilosta, between the sea and Latvia’s largest gray dune. The second level of the platform offers a good view of the habitats which surround the dune, as well as the seashore and the largest seashore rock on the shores of the Baltic Sea – the Pāvilosta sea rock. You can also see the northern part of Pāvilosta. When it is windy outside, you’ll see kiteboard riders showing their tricks.

Old Town Square is the city’s historic centre. It was here, on February 12, 1670, that Duke Jacob of the Duchy of Courland proclaimed the establishment of a town. During the early 20th century, the square was covered in paving stones, and the city market was held there. On the sites of the square are the People’s Centre, the Unitarian Church and a tourism information centre. In the square are a water pump, an enormous scale, and a sculpture of a cougar, which is the symbol of Jēkabpils. From here you can tour the historical centre of Jēkabpils with its narrow streets and low-story buildings.

The castle diner is situated next to Koknese castle ruins. Either before or after boating, Nordic walking, visiting the castle ruins, enjoy tasty coffee, baked buns, snacks, french fries, grilled sausages, ice-cream or buy a soft drink to go with your sandwiches and to drink while sitting in the courtyard of the ancient castle and watching an amazing view of Perse and Daugava crossing. Pēc baznīcas uzcelšanas padomju vara tajā izvietoja klubu, tādēļ draudze baznīcu atguva tikai 1989. gadā. Šīs vietas agrākais nosaukums – Naujene (Novene) ir lietuviešu cilmes. Savukārt, Juzefovas vārds cēlies no vietējā muižnieka Juzefa (Jezupa) Šadurska.

Naukšēni Winery is an organic farm producing cider from Paradise apples.

Our Story 
Cider and fruit wine have been produced here since 2012. The owner of the winery is Jānis Baunis. Wine production is a family tradition, passed down to the second generation; the founder was Jānis' father, Ilmārs Baunis.

Apples 
The fruits and berries are grown locally in Naukšēni, in the largest Paradise apple orchard in the Baltic, covering an area of 6 hectares. The orchard hosts around 20 different varieties of Paradise apples, with a total of approximately 2000 trees.

Ciders  
The Paradise apples give Naukšēni ciders their special and unique taste.

For Visitors
The owners offer tours of the production facility, where they explain the cider-making process and provide tastings of all available drinks along with snacks. In the autumn, they organise a Paradise apple-picking event, followed by a shared meal and drinks, featuring beverages from Naukšēni Winery.
