This is a tour that will take you trough time and space, because it clearly reveals the history of the location since the end of the Ice Age, which created the impressive ancient Gauja river valley. Uncovered sandstone leads one back to the Devonian period, known as the “fish age” – here we’re talking about history that dates back hundreds of millions of years. Human beings arrived in the region quite recently, but they’ve also left lots of evidence behind.

Kihnu is the largest island in the Gulf of Riga with an area of 16.4 km2, it is only 7 km long and 3.3 km wide. Маршрут ведет по южной части исторического края Курземе и включает самые интересные туристические объекты, различные прибрежные пейзажи, и через Земгале возвращается в Ригу. На участке от Юркалне до Лиепаи маршрут идет вдоль побережья Балтийского моря, которое еще двадцать лет назад было закрытой режимной приграничной зоной, в которую попасть можно было только с наличием специального разрешения. В маршрут входят охраняемые природные территории, открытые для посетителей сельские хозяйства, в которых можно как попробовать, так и приобрести качественную продукцию, выдающиеся памятники культуры, Лиепая с выдающимся спектром военного наследия в Военном порте (Каросте) и оживленная Елгава, где обязательно надо подняться на башню церкви Святой Троицы для обозрения окрестностей. This 1939 monument was designed by Kārlis Zemdega and is dedicated to Agriculture Minister Arturs Alberings from the first period of Latvian independence. The monument shows a young man with a grain basket. The monument disappeared during the Soviet occupation, and a gypsum statue of a Pioneer was installed instead. In 1977, children found some parts of the old sculpture buried in the ground, and 10 years later someone found the head of the monument. After a restoration, the Sower sculpture is now in its historical location – in the Terneja Park alongside Rīgas Street. |

Nature restricted area is located to the South from former railroad Ventspils-Liepaja and includes approximately 6 km of Uzava River (and the old drainage system). The territory was used for agriculture during Soviet time, now it starts overgrow by scrubs. The protected nature values – rare bird species, including corncrakes, variety of grassland habitats and plant species. Territory is not useable for tourism activities. There is a possibility to get good insight into the North part of restricted area from the road Alsunga – Berzkalns where information stand is located.

An afforested island in the Gulf of Finland, approximately 14 km to the North of Tallinn. There is a network of small roads and trails on the island. Forests: Mostly 1.1, 1.2 and 4.2. Hike around the shore of the island, where you will find all kinds of environments – dunes, sandy areas, rocky areas and places with lots of reeds (~9 km). |

The museum is in the Lielvārde Park. It is in the granary of the Lielvārde Estate that was built in the early 19th century. It was later used as a residential building. A veranda was added to it in 1922. The museum has been there since 1970, and it features exhibits about the Latvian national epos “Lāčplēsis” and its author, Andrejs Pumpurs (1841-1902). The museum also features information about the history and ethnography of the Lielvārde Administrative District. Alongside it is a large rock that weighs around 80 tonnes and is known as Lāčplēsis’ Bed. A broken part of the rock is known as the Lāčplēsis blanket. Both rocks were once on the banks of the Daugava River next to the Lielvārde island. Waters from the Ķegums hydroelectric power plant now make waves in that area. Nearby is the so-called Spīdala log that was brought from Aizkraukle.
