Mūsdienās Slīteres nacionālā parka piekrasti tēlaini dēvē par Baltijas jūras brīvdabas ģeoloģijas muzeju, jo šeit apskatāms Baltijas ledus ezera senkrasts, Ancilus ezera krasta kāple un Litorīnas jūras kāpu veidojumi (kangari, vigas), kas uzskatāmi atspoguļo Baltijas jūras attīstības vēsturi pēdējo 10 000 gadu garumā. Piekrasti šeit vēsturiski apdzīvojuši lībieši, kuru zvejniekciemi ir nozīmīga vienas no pasaulē mazākās minoriotātes kultūrvide. Maršruts posmā no Mazirbes līdz Kolkai iet pa veco krasta ceļu, kas izlokas cauri lībiešu zvejniekciemiem – Košragu, Pitragu, Saunagu un Vaidi. Pļaviņu un Stukmaņu apkaime bijusi apdzīvota jau ap 3. gs. Poļu-zviedru kara laikā (1600.-1629. g.) pie Aiviekstes ietekas Daugavā bija izvietojusies zviedru kara nometne, no kuras saglabājušies nocietinājumi - skanstis. Tās ir vienas no iespaidīgākajiem šāda veida militārajiem veidojumiem Latvijā. Pļaviņas kā lielāka apdzīvota vieta sāka veidoties 19. gs. 90. gados un 20. gs. sākumā pēc dzelzceļa izbūves. Šodien Pļaviņas vairāk pazīstamas kā dolomīta šķembu ražotnes un pavasara plūdu vieta. |

Here you will learn about home-based manufacturers, farms, companies and others in southern Vidzeme that produce various dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, ice cream, etc. From Rīga, take the Vidzeme Highway and turn toward Mālpils. On the way to Ērgļi and Jumurda, you’ll be delighted by the hillocks of the Vidzeme highlands and the lovely landscape that they represent. Near Ērgļi you will find Braki, the home of the classical Latvian author Rūdolfs Blaumanis, Meņģeļi, home of the Jurjāns brothers, and the Jumurda Estate. Drive on through Cesvaine, stopping to look at its impressive castle, and on to Madona, where you can have a delicious meal. From Madona, follow the lovely banks of the Daugava River to Koknese (Destiny Island, the Koknese castle, park and church), and on to Skrīveri, where the author Andrejs Upītis was born. There’s a homemade ice cream place and the factory that produces the universally known penuche candy that is sold under the “Gotiņa” brand name in Latvia. Then drive to Ogre for some Sierštelle cheeses and then back to Rīga. |

The owner of the farm was the first to grow bush blackberries in Latvia in 1996, and today he has whole fields of the berries. He sells berries and plants, offers tours with tastings and consultations, designs gardens, and prepares plans for greenery. |

The Rožlejas farm is in the Džūkste Parish of the Tukums Administrative District, where the Eastern Courlandian highlands interact with the Heath lowlands. The parents of the current owner, Jānis Ukše, began work there in 1989, establishing a natural farm to grow sugar beets and then also wheat. Thanks to thoughtful farming, Rožlejas has, over the past quarter-century, turned into one of the largest grain farms in Western Latvia. The owners have taken active part in EU projects to purchase modern equipment and to build hangars for the storage of grain and equipment. The farm specialises in winter barley and winter wheat, using ~1,200 ha of land for that purpose. |

Palmse Manor is known to be considered as one of the most beautiful manors in Estonia. The manor has been mentioned first in 1510 as a property of women's monastery. In later centuries it belonged to Palenu family. Manor was built in 1697 but it was made the way we see it nowadays in 18th century. It has been renovated one more time in 1970-1980's. Around the building is a big and scenic park with several ponds. Inside the manor you can become familiar with its interior and visit the basement as well as buy Estonian wine. |

This is the only Straw Museum in Latvia, with ~370 sculptures and dolls made of straw and hay. Children in particular will love the chance to learn skills related to straw and hay at the creative straw workshop, where specific methodologies have been developed. Children will be able to take the things that they create along with them. The owners prepare holiday designs and elements, as well as attractive souvenirs. |

A diverse stand of forest that is bisected by the Vidzeme highway and the Rīga-Lugaži railroad line. This is a place where the largest endangered bird in the world – the European roller – can be found. Between one-quarter and one-fifth of the Latvian population of the crow is found here. This, too, is one of the last nesting places for the green woodpecker.
