Day 2 Vilnius - Daugavpils

  • The second largest city in Latvia and an important economic centre of the Latgale region. Dates back to 1826.
  • Highlights: the Daugavpils Fortress, built to ward off Napoleon's army in early 19th century, total area 150 ha. Its Arsenal building hosts the Mark Rothko Art Centre exhibiting the original masterpieces of Mark Rothko, the founder of the abstract expressionism. Shmakovka Museum – the history of the traditional Latgalian alcoholic beverage that is recognised as culinary heritage of region.

Day 6 Riga - Sigulda

  • The surroundings of Sigulda present some of Latvia’s most beautiful landscapes. The town is located in Gauja National Park.

Day 7 Sigulda - Cesis

Explore Cesis:

  • Cesis was founded in 1206 and is the third oldest town in Latvia. Since the end of the nineteenth century Cesis has been known as a centre of the arts, culture and recreation.
  • Highlights: Cesis medieval castle; the old town of Cesis with its original street network, masonry, ancient manor houses and wooden villas built on the banks of the River Gauja.
