Skiing

These homes are located near well equipped ski hills and cross country skiing trails. Many of them also offer skating on backyard pond, riding in a horse drawn sleigh, or skidooing, sledding or tobaggoing and even ice-fishing. Supper and a sauna are also possible.

What do you need to know about skiing in the Baltics?
The first snow in the Baltic States arrives in November, but the real skiing season begins only around Christmas time and lasts till the end of March. The average temperature in winter is -2C0 with January being the coldest month. The heaviest snowfall in the Baltics occurs in southern Estonia and northeastern Latvia – and that’s where the most popular ski hills are located. These hills have well groomed ski runs of varying difficulty, tows, night lighting and snow-making equipment. Cafes or snack bars and equipment rental shops where you can rent skiis, boots, snowboards and other gear are nearby.

MAZA KAPA
A guest house and an artisan’s shop in Koknese, on the bank of the river Pērse. A sitting room with a fireplace, a seminar room for 35 persons, a sauna and 3 rooms with conveniences. The Koni windmill
Guest house in an old mill built ~180 years ago is located 7 km from Rujiena on the bank of River Ruja. Guesthouse offers not only cozy rooms for its guest but also banquet hall and excursions. Grains are still milled and wool processed in the mill.

JAUNMOKU PILS

The Jaunmoku palace is just 75 km from Rīga in a quiet and hilly Kurzeme landscape. The palace was built in 1901 after a design by Wilhelm Bockslaff, and it was the hunting castle of Rīga Mayor George Armitstead at first.  The greatest and most tempting treasure in the castle are the pot-bellied stoves, the most valuable and ornate one having been manufactured in honour of the 700th anniversary of the city of Rīga.  Today the castle welcomes visitors both old and young who wish to relax from everyday stresses by strolling around the castle park, visiting the forest museum, and making a personal Latvian design in the Sign Centre.  Newlyweds just adore this location, because the pergola of the park features birdsong and a fountain which are perfect for joining together two hearts and saying “I do.”  Romantic leisure will also be enjoyed by those who dine in the castle’s White Salon, take a picnic on the seashore, or spend the night in the castle’s elegant rooms.  We offer horse-drawn cart rides through the castle park and its historical linden alley. You can taste teas and rose jams.  We have rooms for seminars and celebrations, delicious meals in our restaurant, and accommodations in a three-star hotel.  This is a time where time, nature and music all flow together.
