VERBELNIEKILeisure centre is located in the dunes of the Baltic Sea seashore; one hundred meters from the sea. On purpose to preserve the dunes and sands there is placed a wooden footbridge. Territory of the centre is functionally facilitated recreation area; particular picnic areas are isolated from overnight staying area. Solar batteries are placed on a roof of the guest house in 2013. In WC there are mixer taps, but flushing mechanism of toilet has two types of capacity. Rainwater is stored in barrels and used for watering of a garden. Organic waste is fed to domestic animals. In 2014 there has been written a project on acquisition of bicycles for needs of customers and submitted to the Rural Support Service. In the centre there is a cafe „Siena šķūnis” (Hayshed) that does not use convenience foods in cooking of meals. They are growing greens and dishing up meals made of the fish from the Baltic Sea – cods, flukes and herrings. The cafe offers ‘sklandrauši’ (traditional dish in Latvian cuisine; sweet pie made of rye dough and filled with potato and carrot paste) and grey peas; collaborates with other catering companies, invites ladies from Rucava who present to the guests traditions of Lejaskurzeme. For children there is a wide playground with different amusements and domestic animals – rabbits, goats and sheep. |
