These meadows are of distinction because of the curvy Slampe River, which has caused a gradual recovery of damp meadows, complete with species of plants and animals that are typical of such areas. Domestic animals adapted for life in the wild can be seen here, and a bird watching tower on the location will offer you an excellent opportunity to view them. You can get to the meadows via a narrow corridor known as the Melnragu throat. The gravel road will lead to a hillock called Kurgāns from which you can have an excellent view of the surrounding landscape. |

One of the most distinct sub-glacial depressions in Latvia, with 11 lakes of various sizes and depths. This is a magnificently lovely territory, with particularly good views from the Drusku castle hill. On a clear day, one can even see the Hanja highlands of Estonia. The restricted territory was set up to protect boreal and hillside forests I the area.

There are three large lakes at the centre of this park – Lake Dusia, Lake Metelys, and Lake Obelija. Lake Dusia has very clear and transparent water, and its southern and south-eastern beaches are popular among swimmers. The lakes and their nearby wetlands are important during the migration season of birds.

Bei einem Spaziergang einen 1 km langen Landweg entlang, der sich gemütlich am Meer entlang erstreckt, kann man einen echten Zauber der Siedlung spüren. Auf der rechten Seite sind zerstreute Steine, kleine Blumengärtchen an der Seeküste, Bänke, die laden ein niederzusitzen, gestürzte Boote zu sehen. An der Küstenseite befindet sich mehr als 100 Jahre die jetzige Bibliothek von Kaltene. Das Gebäude wurde 1899 als ein Sommerhaus des Barons Nolcken aus Nogale gebaut und mehrfach umgebaut. Deswegen änderte sich auch die Rolle dieses Gebäudes in der Gesellschaft. Ursprünglich befand sich hier seit dem Jahr 1926 eine Schule, danach – ein Klub, aber seit dem Jahr 1992 – wieder eine Grundschule. Wenn man den Weg entlang geht, sind gepflegte, schöne kurländische Küstenhöfe zu sehen, zwischen denen man auch die Häuser der alten Fischer und Schiffbauer finden kann, wie das Haus “Burliņi”. Bei dem Flussschen Žulniekvalks befand sich auf dem Hof ‘Smilgas” eine Schmiede des Schiffsschmiedes Pēters Valdemārs, der damals der Hauptschiffsschmied auf dem Gelände von Kaltene bis Upesgrīva war. This farm has more than 20 years of experience with beekeeping products and their sale. Groups of tourists can tour the farm with the help of a knowledgeable guide. There are creative workshops for children, games for teams, tastings of products, a location for picnics, as well as luncheons of soup cooked on a campfire along with honey bread. |

Plateļu dienviddaļā plešas sakoptais Plateļu muižas (muižas vēsture ir zināma, no 16. gs.) parks, kura centrā aug Raganu osis – dižkoks 7,2 m apkārtmērā. Parkā un tā tuvākajā apkārtnē ir redzamas muižas saimniecības ēkas. Vienā no tām – atjaunotajā zirgu stallī ir izveidots muzejs, kurā var apskatīt unikālas 250 vietējo meistaru darinātās maskas. Pašreiz šī ir lielākā šāda veida masku kolekcija Baltijas valstīs. Plateļu ezerā ir atrastas trīs no ozolkoka taisītas vienkoča laivas. Viena no tām (darināta 16. gs.) atrodas Lietuvas Jūras muzejā. Otra (15. gs.) ir apskatāma atjaunotajā Plateļu muižas graudu glabātavas pagrabā (Didžioji gatve 22), jo šobrīd tiek restaurēta. Trešā laiva arī izlikta apskatei kā muzeja eksponāts. |
