Eine sehr seltene Pflanze, die in diesem Gebiet wächst - die Glockenheide - war der Hauptgrund, warum hier ein Naturreservat 1936 errichtet wurde. Eine stillgelegte Eisenbahnlinie zwischen Ventspils und Liepāja führt durch dieses Reservat von Norden nach Süden. Besuche des Reservats sind streng verboten.

The Great Ķemeri Bog Boardwalk is located in Ķemeri National Park. The national park covers an area of 38,165 hectares. The Great Ķemeri Bog Boardwalk immerses visitors in the world of moss, small pine trees, deep pools, tiny dark lakes and the smell of wild rosemary. An astute visitor will notice the carnivorous sundew plant and a variety of birds – wood sandpipers, white wagtails and tree pipits – and will also be able to hear cranes further away. Those who prefer shorter strolls can take the small boardwalk loop (approx. 1.4 km), while those who choose the great loop (approx. 3.4 km) will be rewarded with the opportunity to climb to a viewing platform that offers a magnificent view of the bog from above. The Great Ķemeri Bog Boardwalk has become a popular place for landscape and wildlife photographers. The whole trail is laid to wooden boardwalk and therefore is fully accessible and can be walked without a professional guide.

Befindet sich auf einer Anhöhe, an einem schönen Ort, am Ufer des Alūksne Sees bei der Pleskavas Straße (P 40). Das Denkmal wurde am 20. Juni 1923 vom Staatspräsident Jānis Čakste eröffnet. Das Denkmal wurde nach einem Entwurf des Bildhauers J. Miesnieks errichtet. Im Zentrum des Denkmals ist ein Schild mit einem gekreuzten Schwert dargestellt. Auf dem Sockel ist die Inschrift angebracht: “Den für Lettland gefallenen Kriegern des 7. Infanterieregiments von Sigulda. 1919 – 1920”. Auf einer anderen Seite ist folgende Inschrift angebracht: “Besser sein Leben geben, als unser Vaterland verlieren”. In der Sowjetzeit (1953) wurde das Denkmal abgerissen. Das Denkmal wurde 2009 erneuert.

Die Wirtin backt echtes lettisches Landbrot in einem mit Holz heizbaren Lehmofen. Der Teig wird aus Roggen- und Weizenmehl, Salz, Zucker, Kümmeln und natürlichem Sauerteig vorbereitet. Die Besucher können das Brotbacken beobachten und daran auch teilnehmen, sowie das Brot probieren und kaufen. Auf dem Hof kann man eine Altertümer-Sammlung besichtigen. Das zum Brotbacken verwendete Getreide ist aus dem eigenen Hof, wo es umweltfreundlich angebaut wird!

The Buse (Matkule) castle hill is near the Imula River. From the castle hill and from the opposite shore of the river, you can find one of the loveliest views of Kurzeme’s small rivers. Their appearance is best when trees and other flora are bare and the view is unimpeded. A wonderful view of the Imula valley is also seen on the road to the castle hill – near the Buse homestead.

A special adventure is creating artworks from natural materials that have been collected in the forest.  The accommodations are appropriate for people who use a wheelchair.  The lavatory has been adapted to the needs of such people, as well.

People who are interested in cultural history can tour a collection of Latvian folk costumes, trying them on and organising their own photo session.  People who enjoy extreme feelings will enjoy a ride on a quadricycle.  If you love to go fishing, bring your own inventory.  We organise fire rituals for birthdays and family celebrations, and we’ll also offer soup that has been cooked on a campfire, as well as a master class in cheesemaking.
