The biography of Krišjānis Valdemārs tells us that during the summer of 1839, teachers and students from the Lubezere school spent a few days on the coastline in Roja, where Valdemārs would later help to build a maritime school. The area was breath-taking and unforgettable for the little boy. “The noble appearance of the sea grabbed the spirit of the young man so powerfully that during those three days, I thought about nothing other than the noble sea, with childish courage that allowed me to prepare a plan for a deeper port in the Roja River so that larger boats and small ships could enter it,” Valdemārs wrote. Mushrooming is one of the most popular autumn activities in Latvia. The tour is lead by a professional mycologist and combines the mysterious world of funghi with local historic heritage and mushroom preparation traditions. Mushrooming starts at one the most popular mushroom pickers' sites in the suburbs of Riga. Then it's on to try various locations in the mushrooming paradise of the Gauja National Park, walk nature trail along the Amata river and have a picnic at picturesque outcrop Zvārtes Rock. Further on, the route reaches charming Ungurmuiža Manor park with its ancient oak trees and some specific fungal species. Next the tour visits a shiitake mushroom grower and mysterious Zilaiskalns hill featuring a highland landscape as well as the flatlands of Lake Burtnieks. Zīle Forest is a rare European biotope with ancient oak forest and park type meadows while the natural coniferous forest at Mežole is one of the richest interms of biological diversity. Here you can find mushrooms which are indicators of natural forest. You also visit oyster mushroom growers along the route. Then it's Āraiši reconstructed Bronze Age settlement built on a lake where there are good examples of how mushrooms can damage and destroy man made objects. At one of the guest houses the chef will demonstrate how to cook your collected mushrooms the local way. |

The Sutru Berry Garden is in the Sutru Parish in the Līvāni Administrative District. It grows blackberries in tunnels, which means that the berries ripen far more quickly than elsewhere in Latvia. You can purchase berries on site. |

On sunny days, this white church absolutely sparkles. It is in the southern section of the village and can be seen from a great distance. Jesuits built the first wooden church at this location in 1759 in honour of St Peter and St Paul. The church that is there today was built nearly a century-and-a-half later, in 1893. The interior can be visited during worship services. Interred in the yard of the church is the Lithuanian pastor and wood carver Antons Rimovičs (1865-1933). The congregation building is opposite the church. |

No vairākiem parka ūdenskritumiem noteikti ir jāapmeklē divi. 1,2 m augstais vienpakāpes Nemmeveski ir izveidojies uz Valgejegi upes (Valgejõgi), vietā kur tā šķērso Ziemeļigaunijas glintu. Šeit Valgejegi atgādina krāčainu (īpaši – pavasaros) kalnu upi, kas plūst pa vairākus metrus augstu klinšu ieskautu kanjonu. Palu laikā šo upes posmu ir iecienījuši ekstrēmie ūdenssporta veidu cienītāji. Pie ūdenskrituma un tālāk pa upi lejup redzamas ap 1920. g. celtās hidroelektrostacijas konstrukciju paliekas. |

This farm grows black currants, blackberries, raspberries, rowans, sea-buckthorn and other berries from which the owner produces homemade wine. The cellar of the castle of the former Order of Kuldīga (with room for up to 25 people) offers tastings of three different wines. Larger groups are welcome to the granary of the Padure Estate. |

Very wide territory for a nature restricted area where extensive forests and several bogs can be found. The territory is important living space for many bird species. Vasenieku bog path with observation tower is the most attractive sites of the restricted area and offers unique landscape of the bog for its visitors. Waterproof shoes are recommended for visitors as the first 500 m of the path is molded turf rampart. Information stands are significant source of information along the path. It is suggested to visit also Stikli (Glass) village where glass factory used to be. Chandelier of Stende church has been made in this factory (by memory of Inese Roze).

Истоки площади Роз уходят в 1911 - 1913 гг., когда на этом месте разбили открытый сад с > 500 кустами роз. В советское время рядом с площадью Роз был установлен памятник Ленину. Восстановленную в 2000 году площадь окружает Лиепайская Педагогическая академия, гостиница «Лива», Центр бизнеса и сделок De Rome (построен в XIX веке, архитектор Пауль Макс Берчи, бывшая гостиница «Рим») и Лиепайский дом латышского общества (камень в основание заложил Карлис Ульманис в 1934 г.). По бордюрам грядок роз размещены памятные знаки городов содружества Лиепаи. К площади Роз подходит улица Зивью (Рыбная), получившая свое название от когда-то существовавшего рыбного рынка. На улице Зивью находится Аллея славы латвийских музыкантов (с 2006 г.), где установлено 35 плит с бронзовым рельефом ладоней музыкантов, 10 плит, посвященные популярным латвийским музыкальным группам, а 5 – ушедшим в мир иной. Здесь же установлена самая большая гитара Латвии. |

This battery is easiest to find if you walk on the beach, because one of its four positions is right there, rinsed by the waves of the sea. Other positions, including a telescope tower, are in the pine forest not far from the coast. The battery was installed in the 1940s, and you can see the Northern Forts from here.

The old Kolkasrags lighthouse is just a set of ruins right now. The
lighthouse at the tip of the horn was built in the 16th century and
renovated several times. The ruins are slowly decaying because of storms
and ice during the winter. They had been standing well away from the
shoreline once, but now are slowly disappearing under water.
