Илзе Купча печет в Марупе пирожные, продолжая традиции, унаследованные от бабушки. Она – лауреат нескольких наград латвийских конкурсов. This is a short stretch of the Daugava River valley between Lielvārde and Dzelme, with islands and shallows in the river, as well as with reeds and wet meadows alongside it. During migration season, many goose-type and plover-type birds rest and feed here. The location is also an important nesting area for several other kinds of birds.

The tower is at the western end of the Seda swamp, accessed from the side of Jērcēni. Transport is limited here. The tower is in the area of the swamp where peat moss is extracted. It offers a broad view of the ponds of Seda and a boat rental facility that is nearby. It is an appropriate location for bird-watching during the season of migration. There is another bird-watching platform near the town of Seda. This is part of the ZBR. |

The mouth of the most beautiful river of Vidzeme. On the seashore between the mouths of River Gauja and River Daugava, one of the largest dune ranges in Latvia with distinctive parabolic dunes overgrown with forest (wooded dunes) is situated. The Mouth of River Gauja is unique as it is one of the few major rivers in Latvia and in EU countries to flow into the sea naturally. There is no harbour or other hydro-engineering construction. It is a popular recreation area in the vicinity of Riga and Saulkrasti while, unfortunately, the lack of infrastructure makes it suffer from anthropogenic load. Not far from the rivermouth, hidden in dunes, there are pillboxes which were built in 1920 or 30ies as anti-airborne barriers. There was a whole range of them along the coastline from the mouth of the River Lielupe to the mouth of the River Gauja forming a part of the Daugavgrīva Fortress fortifications. The pillbox is made of concrete, ca 1.5m thick. Every year, on the 3rd Sunday in August, a lamprey festival takes place in Carnikava town by the Gauja rivermouth. Carnikava is called the Lamprey Capital as it is famous for its lamprey fishing tradition and generous catches. The Mouth of the River Gauja is a good bird-watching area, especially in spring and autumn when one can observe the highest variety of species. Karulas augstienes augstākais reljefa punkts (137 m.vjl.), kas virs tuvākās apkārtnes paceļas par ~ 60 m. Torņa kalnā ir uzbūvēts skatu tornis ar ļoti plašu apkārtskatu. Uz tā platformas ir novietoti panorāmas fotoattēli, kuros atzīmēti zīmīgākie plašākā apkaimē redzamie objekti – apdzīvotas vietas, pilskalni, baznīcu torņi u.c. Turpat izveidota atpūtas vieta un meklējams Rebases ainavu takas sākums. |

This is a lovely place in Sigulda which has been painted (as the word "gleznotāji", which means "painters" suggests) and photographed for centuries. This is basically not a hill at all, it's just the place where the shore of the ancient Gauja River valley is split by the mighty Vējupīte ravine. You will have an excellent view of the Turaida Castle and the river valley. There are leisure facilities and a viewing platform there. You can ride to Paradīze hill via an electric car. |

Kihnu is the largest island in the Gulf of Riga, with an area of 16.4 km2. It is only 7 km long and 3.3 km wide. Kihnu's cultural space and traditions are included on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. There are four villages on the island and the islanders still wear national dress as everyday apparel. The unique atmosphere of the island can be experienced during a guided day programme. Kihnu Mare, the local guide, has developed her own traditional culture network with the people who have the know-how and skills to demonstrate for visitors the different aspects of Kihnu culture: the language, the traditional clothes, farming and fieldwork, handicrafts, the preparation of traditional foods, folklore, church life, singing, and dancing at weddings and village parties, as well as their traditions surrounding the sea, fishing, seal hunting and living with nature. |

Последнее десятилетие в городе развивается инфраструктура, образовались просторные районы особняков. В 1996 году в Саласпилсе построили новую католическую церковь. Маршрут ведет по природному парку «Излучины Даугавы», который в восьмидесятых годах прошлого века хотели затопить, построив Даугавпилсскую ГЭС. Центральной артерией природного парка является древняя долина Даугавы. Особенность Даугавы – восемь больших излучин реки, протяженность которых составляет 4 – 6 км. Наибольшую высоту берега реки достигают в т.н. «Воротах Даугавы», где возвышаются крутые и мощные Верверский и Слутишкский обрывы. Более половины территории занимают леса, подходящие для походов и наблюдения за природой, сбора ягод и грибов. Долина Даугавы – одна из флористически богатейших в Латвии. Здесь произрастают более 800 видов растений. Это край мультинациональной среды, где сплелись традиции латгалов, литовцев, поляков, русских и белоруссов и их наследие.
