Opened on June 21, 2011, at the 51st kilometre of the Tallinn-Riga highway, the MEKE KROGS pub is a typical example of the roadside pubs which used to be built along the sides of roads and near homesteads, castles, mills and windmills. This particular one is located into renovated cattle shed that is more than 100 years old – a lovely log building that is named after the former baron of the local estate, von Mecke. Alongside it is the handsome parish building which was erected in 1907 with red bricks from Tūja. Latvian cuisine: Sorrel stew with grits, cold soup, pounded beef, mutton and vegetable stew, grits with smoked meat and mushrooms, herring with cottage cheese, bread soup. The birthplace of Latvia’s first prime minister and, later, president, Kārlis Ulmanis (1877-1942) was turned into a museum in 1993. The homestead has undergone unbelievable transformation during the past two decades. The landscape has been cleaned up, and buildings that were lost or were in poor shape have been rebuilt. There are a house, an ancillary building, a cattle shed and barn and a granary. The exhibition focuses on the life of Ulmanis, featuring an impressive collection of agricultural equipment and instruments, including Latvia’s largest wooden butter churn. |

This is an organic farm, and visitors are invited to join in the fieldwork - gather hay, make sauerkraut, pull weeds, milk a goat, watch the geese, catch some fish and then smoke them in accordance with the farmer’s own recipe. Visitors can also help to bake bread. There’s a sauna where you can inhale the aroma of healthy grasses and drink some medicinal teas.

“Kurzemnieku pirts” (Courlandian Sauna) is found in the Priekule parish and offers individual sauna rituals led by a certified sauna master. This can be for one person, a couple, or a small group of people who enjoy a sauna. The Latvian ritual will created positive emotions for experienced sauna users and for those who are only just preparing to learn about the sauna. The sauna ritual is very calm, purifying the flesh and the mind, helping people to rid themselves of what is not necessary and to prepare for their next steps in life. The ritual will be personalised in accordance with each sauna visitor’s wishes. |

Meals are served in the ancient dining room of the knights under the vaulted ceiling, with candlelight and medieval music. Use wooden spoons or your hands to enjoy the same kind of feast that was enjoyed in the past by barons, monks and servants. The wooden building was erected in the late 19th century and features a museum which demonstrates the way in which people lived more than 100 years ago. Exhibits include household objects, the Rucava folk costume, socks and decorated mittens. Various events involving discussions, singing, games, dancing and weaving are organised, as are cultural and educational programmes such as “Evening Activities” and “A Rucava Banquet” with local foods from lower Kurzeme. By the beekeeping farm “Kalniņi” there is a Bee Hut – small wooden house in which you can feel the presence of bees. The hives with seven bee families are built-in the sides of the Bee Hut, but inside the building they are designed as beds or seats. When looking at the building from the outside you can see the bee runs and also bees themselves. In addition, “Kalniņi” also offer different types of bee products – honey, pollen bread, beautiful and aromatic wax candles. It is possible to taste beekeeping products and enjoy a cap of warm tea. Families with kids can participate in educational workshops, learn how to make wax candles and gain information about the daily life in the beekeeping farm. Since summer 2018 everyone can also visit the House of Crafts, where you can participate in different activities such as Encaustic painting (also known as hot wax painting), create wooden souvenirs with burnt folk signs as well as create wax candles etc. The House of Crafts offers different itineraries for grownups, kids, youngsters and newlyweds. There you can also purchase the offered products - various flower honey, pollen, pollen bread, propolis, cell honey and wax candles. |

The recreation complex "Pazust Priedēs" is a newly created recreation area in the village of Bernāti - a 7-minute walk from the beach. Two holiday homes are available for recreation - "Saulrieta" and "Saullēta" houses and a separate bathhouse. Each holiday home has a separate bedroom, an equipped kitchen and a loft floor with additional sleeping places. The recreation complex can accommodate up to 12 people in total. Picnic areas are available near each house and in the territory. SPA services are offered with sauna sessions and a selection of essential oils, with mental health improvement options and meditative tools. An outdoor hot tub is available. Retreats are organized during the summer season, and meditative/exploratory books are available in each house. |

About 20 minutes by car from Sigulda, this is a venue that offers you a chance to go fishing in a pond that covers 3 ha and offers every opportunity for relaxation. You can rent a boat, and during the winter you can go ice fishing. Next to the pond is a two-story house with a kitchen and an opportunity to spend the night as long as you bring your own mattress. There are three rooms on the lower and three on the higher floor of the building. Next to the house is a lean-to, and there is a pergola not far from the pond. The More War Museum is a bit more than half a kilometre away. Also nearby is the Safari Park. |
