This medieval saloon is a true Middle Ages saloon situated on the premises of the Ventspils Castle of the Livonian Order, next to which the river Venta flows. The saloon is thoughtfully incorporated in the castle ensemble, the interior design and the foods that are served create a true feeling of the Middle Ages.

Latvian cuisine: Mutton soup, roast mutton, plaice filet, herring en papillote, homemade wines.

The dining room is located in the Kantküla former canteen premises, offering food from fresh, local ingredients. Dinner is served in buffet style, while in the summer season guests can also enjoy the a la carte menu or individually priced dishes. Accommodation and catering services are also provided.

The “Lamb Club” is a farm in Mazsalaca, and it is special because the sheep live in a real club!  The owners offer the atmosphere of a farm at which the sheep play major roles.  Enjoy mutton and sheep milk foods and beverages, feel how comfortable it is to read your favourite while sitting on a fluffy sheepskin, and, in order not to get cold by the campfire in the evening, you can purchase warm woollen socks and woven woollen cloaks.

The owners hope that people from Latvia and all around the world will spend more time at the farm, because accommodations involve a new glamping tent that is as close as possible to nature and the healthy rural environment.  Don’t lose a lick of the comfort that you are used to in your everyday life!

The owners, Ilze and Valters, will be happy to give you a tour during which they talk about herding sheep.  If you contact them in advance, they will prepare a tasty mutton meal for you.  The tour can also be supplemented with various activities such as games, quizzes and creative workshops at which sheep wool is utilised.
 

There are records to show that there has been a church at this location since the 17th century, and the current one was built between 1792 and 1794 by the chief construction specialist of the city of Rīga, Christopher Haberland.  He designed the cupola-shaped building, with the cupola ensuring good acoustics inside the building.  The altar is opposite the entrance door.  Between the columns of the building is an altar painting showing Christ and St Peter on a storm-ravaged sea.  Other important objects include chalices from the 18th or 19th century, candelabras, etc.  The building was restored in 2014.  To the South from it is the Katlakalns cemetery, which is the final resting place of the distinguished Baltic German writer Garlieb Merkel (1769-1850).  He was of great importance in ensuring the end of indentured servitude in Latvia.

The farm specializes on growing and reprocessing cranberries and blueberries. They offer tastings of the products and purchasing those in a small local shop, as well as a 2-hour-long excursion around the farm.

Mailīšu fabrika atrodas Ērgļos, un tā ir radīta ar mērķi saglabāt rokdarbu tradīcijas un prasmes. Te auž vilnas, lina un zīda darbus - segas, plecu lakatus, linu dvieļus. Viesiem ir iespēja apskatīt dažādu veidu stelles, kuras izmantotas Latvijas teritorijā jau sākot no 9.gs. 

Bērzes upes labajā krastā, vietā, kur tagad paceļas Dobeles pilsdrupas, jau 1. gadu tūkstotī p. m. ē. atradās zemgaļu apmetne un vēlāk – koka pils. Gandrīz simts gadus pils izturēja vairākus krustnešu uzbrukumus un aplenkumus, un tikai 1289. g., kad vācieši bija pilnībā izpostījuši apvidu un tālāka pretošanās kļuva bezcerīga, zemgaļi paši nodedzināja savu koka pili un neuzvarēti aizgāja uz Lietuvu. 700 gadus vēlāk, 1989. gadā, godinot zemgaļu cilšu piemiņu, bijušās senpilsētas vietā tika atklāta piemiņas zīme, ko veidojis mākslinieks Mārtiņš Zaurs. Akmenī iecirsts teksts: “Zini, no šīs vietas pirms 700 gadiem zemgaļi aizgāja lepni un brīvi”, kā arī dzejnieka Viļa Plūdoņa vārdi : “Mēs svešā malā ejam, bet sirds mums paliek te”.  

Žagare has long since been known for a special type of cherries.  There are various varieties which only differ in terms of when they are ripe and productive.  There are different types of trees.  The cherries grow at nearly home, and that is an exclusive symbol of Žagare. 

Latvia’s newest national park (2007) is in the “land of the blue lakes” – the region of Latgale. One of the goals of establishing a national park was to preserve the natural treasures of the region. Lake Rāzna, which is the second largest in Latvia, is there, as is Lake Ežezers, which has more island than any other lake in Latvia. There are other bodies of water, as well as typical landscapes of hillocks and a unique cultural environment. One of the most popular destinations in the park is Mākoņkalns Hill, which offers a lovely view of Lake Rāzna. Administrators of the newly established park are working on the tourist infrastructure – trails, routes, etc. Perhaps visitors would be advised to postpone their trip to the Rāzna National Park for awhile.
