Here you can cross a swamp without getting your feet wet and enjoy the local environment, which has been little touched by humankind. You can take the dam of the former Smiltene-Valmiera-Ainaži narrow gauge railroad. It crosses the swamp from the South-East to the North-West and is three to four km in length. There is also a circular wooden pathway on the eastern side of the dam. The length of the trail (including the dam) is around 5km, and it will take 90 minutes to two hours to traverse. The area is covered by environmental restrictions.

(V-1279) linked Kuldīga and Alsunga before a new road was built. The lovely gravel road weaves through forests and farmland. During appropriate weather, it can be used as an alternative road to learn about the landscapes of the Suiti region. You can also bike down the road. |

The farm makes goat’s milk cheese and other goat’s milk products. Goats, sheep, rabbits and domestic birds are bred here. You can purchase products by ordering in advance, excursions on the farm are organised during summer. |

Café Roomassaare is located near Kuressaare, providing a picturesque view of the Roomassaare yacht pier. In the summer season, the café mostly prepares dishes from local products, offering both locals and tourists a simple and clean combination of local flavours. A lot of fish as well! |

The Ungurmuiža park is well known for its outstanding and huge oak trees. Some of them are rotting or dead, and they are home to a great many species, including many that are found nowhere else in Europe. A pathway leads through these noble trees – 1.3km in length, with visitors spending as much as an hour there. The park also contains the only wooden castle from the early 18th century that has been preserved to the present day. There are other cultural and historical treasures, as well.

Kihnu is the largest island in the Gulf of Riga with an area of 16.4 km2, it is only 7 km long and 3.3 km wide. There are four villages on the island and the unique atmosphere of the island can be experienced by visiting a local family at Kuraga Farm. Three generations live in this farm and are happy to welcome guests. |

Here we find a set of canyon-type gullies among layers of dolomite. There are impressive outcrops and small waterfalls in the little river’s bed.

Restaurant Ankur is a cosy place where home-made dishes are served, mostly from local products. Peipus Lake fish are of special value. There is also a hotel in the same building. |

This landscape park dates back to the latter half of the 18th century, and its initiator was the owner of the Alūksne Estate, Baron Otto Hermann von Fittinghof. The largest park has important small buildings – the Alexander Pavilion, a temple honouring the Ancient Greek god of winds, Aeolus, the Palm House, a 1799 granite obelisk, the mausoleum for the noble family, a fountain basin that is made of a single piece of granite, as well as a set of granite benches. This is known as one of the most beautiful parks in Vidzeme. |

The café is in the “Pils” guesthouse, near the Knight Castle Hill and Gunpowder Tower of Kandava. These can be seen from the café’s terrace. The city of wind, amber and musicians. In the literature sources Liepaja was mentioned for the first time in 1253. The city strived as a trade harbour already at the end of the 16th century. Especially important was the ruling period of Kurzeme Dukes Jacob and Friedrich, when the export and import of Lithuania and Kurzeme goods was provided through Liepaja harbour. Instead of the Līva River that was filled with dune sand a channel was excavated and wharf was formed. The growth of the city continued in the 18th century also after the Northern War and the plague epidemic. When in 1795 Kurzeme was added to the Russian Empire, as one of the most important western harbours of the Empire the harbour of Liepaja developed even more rapidly. From the end of the 18th century until the 19th century Liepaja also became a popular recreation place for the aristocrats of Petersburg. At the end of the 19th century the construction works of War Port and fortress begun. The city became a military strategic place. It suffered hard during World War II. In 1967 the sea trade harbour terminated its operation in Liepaja and Liepaja became a closed city where the War Port was "a city within a city". Today the War Port and its offer is one of the top tourism spots in Latvia. |

Kakaiši is found 1 km to the South-West from Vecpiebalga, in the tiny village of Kakaiši. The Latvian writer Antons Austriņš (1884-1934) was born there and went to school in Vecpiebalga. Austriņš is best known for the short story collection “Puiškans” (1931). The museum features various rural objects, things associated with the author, and exhibits such as his collected works and other books that are worth visiting in the company of a guide. |
