Pēteris Barisons (1904-1947) was a Latvian composer and conductor, and this is his birthplace – the Skudras homestead. The Vecročupe river flows out of the artificial Vaide pond. It was created by blocking the Vaide and the Kukšupe rivers. This happened during the Soviet occupation, when forestry people decided to establish a fishing pond and an area for recreations. A wooden pergola has been installed at the pond, and there is an information stand, as well. On the northern shore of the pond is the Vaide cemetery, which dates back to 1928 and has interesting wooden crosses. |

This 1939 monument was designed by Kārlis Zemdega and is dedicated to Agriculture Minister Arturs Alberings from the first period of Latvian independence. The monument shows a young man with a grain basket. The monument disappeared during the Soviet occupation, and a gypsum statue of a Pioneer was installed instead. In 1977, children found some parts of the old sculpture buried in the ground, and 10 years later someone found the head of the monument. After a restoration, the Sower sculpture is now in its historical location – in the Terneja Park alongside Rīgas Street. |

The tower is beyond the Oleri estate, in the small Oleri swamp, where at the end of a wooden footpath you can step upward a bit and learn about the landscape of a transitional swamp. This is part of the ZBR.

The Vijciems Hunting Castle building houses an elegant design guest house Bergervilla. Each room has an individually designed design, historic furniture and a special atmosphere. Three little lakes can be found on the left bank of the Pirita River with many erupting “eyes” of streams, each with its own colour (bluish-green, white, dark). This puts together various colour combinations. These are often known as the most beautiful streams in Estonia. Some pump out as much as 20-30 litres of water per hour. It is said that the waters are good medical resources, particularly for the eyes. There are improvements in the area of tourists.

Overgrown with reeds, full of seashore meadows, lagoons, muddy little lakes and sandy shallows – this is the part of the Bay of Rīga shoreline which runs between Ainaži and Kuiviži. The Randi meadows are an important location for birds and plant life. It is a protected habitat with environmental restrictions. A bird-watching tower and nature trail have been installed so that visitors can study the meadows. The tour will take around one hour to complete. Objects are in the Northern Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve.

Lithuania's pearl is the Curonian Spit and its lagoon which attracts with its vast sand dunes and Nida, a charming village with a Thomas Mann Museum. Back in Latvia, Liepaja is an exciting city with a historic quarter, beach, lively restaurants and clubs and a distinctive millitary heritage in the form of former naval forts and a military zone. Kuldiga is loved by artists due to its picturesque little cobbled streets with wooden houses and the Europe's widdest waterfall on the Venta river. |
