This swampy territory used to be part of a Littorena Sea lagoon, and it is a place where many rare and protected birds such as woodpeckers live and nest. National partisans commanded by Rihards Pārups were very active during World War II between Vietalva and Jaunkalsnava. The team was disbanded in 1946. The dugout is at a location that is hard to find and access. It is in the nature reserve of the Veseta Wetlands Swamp. The wood pathway that leads from the East is often hidden by reeds during the summer. During the fierce winter of 2010, the roof of the dugout collapsed, but local enthusiasts plan to reconstruct it. Alongside the dugout is a white cross inscribed with the names of the partisans who lost their lives here.

Neskartu mežu cienītāji var doties izpētīt Plakanciema puses mežu takas. Braucot no Plakanciema pasta nodaļas Mellupu virzienā pa autoceļu V7, pēc aptuveni 1 km jānogriežas ceļā pa labi. Tālāk jādodas uz priekšu vēl 1,2 km. Maršruta sākums - iepretī mājām “Putriņas” ceļa kreisajā pusē, kur sākas meža ceļš. Sākumā maršruts ved pa taisnu meža ceļu. Pēc 500 m nonākam pie ūdenskrātuves (karjera). Šeit ir iespēja doties vai nu gar vienu ūdenskrātuves krastu, vai gar otru. Abās pusēs var aiziet aptuveni līdz ūdenskrātuves pusei un tad griezties atpakaļ. Krastā augošos kokus iecienījuši bebri. Ūdenī peldas pīles, meža ceļa malā vairāki skudrupūžņi, no sakritušo pērno lapu apakšas lien ārā zaķskābenes.

The “Nida-Pērkone” protected marine territory is one of the most biologically diverse marine territories along the shore of the open part of the Baltic Sea, and it is enormously important for environmental protection. The most important reef territories are found here. During migration season, most species of migrating birds that are found in Latvia cross the area. The territory is particularly important to protect the goosander and the little gull. The territory is opposite the Rucava and Nīca administrative districts and covers 36,703 hectares. It overlaps the marine section of the Pape Nature Park and the Bernāti Nature Park.

Immaculate Conception of Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church of Nautrēni (Rogovka). The construction works of the brick church lasted from 1901 till 1914. It is an example of Romantesque style. The organ was bought in 1939; it is a national cultural monument.
