The Healing Gardens is a part of the Upmaļi biological farm that occupies 125 ha of land. The 4th generation of Bergmanis family runs the farm. Māra and Dainis, the present farm owners, involve their family members to work for preservation of the old and rare fruit and berry cultivars that have been planted in the 30-ties of the previous century. The gardens also contain tree varieties that have medicinal powers and some rare varieties like elder, walnut tree, edible chestnut, mulberry tree and others. Together with the herb plantations, the Healing Gardens cover over 12 ha of land. The hosts have over 30 years experience in natural healing and Ayurvedic tradition. The bridge was built in 1906. Part of it was blown up during World War I and later restored. During the Soviet occupation, one needed special permits to cross the bridge. Military ships and other vessels used the canal, because one of the largest military bases in the USSR was sited here. In the summer of 2006, one month before the bridge’s centenary, a Georgian-flagged tanker, the Anna, rammed into the northern support structure of the bridge, and that destroyed the bridge’s turning part beyond recognition. The bridge was renovated and reopened in 2009. You can look at the bridge and cross it at any time.This is a unique engineering monument, and it is the only drawbridge of its kind in the Baltic States. It takes just five minutes to turn the two parts of the bridge.

The Zemgale region is a fertile flatland.  There are many modern farms, including some that will allow you to learn about life in the countryside and the heritage of agricultural history.  You will start your trip and then take the "Milky Way" route to a dairy farm.  Next you will visit Jelgava, the former capital of the Duchy of Courland from the 16th to the 18th century.  The history of the town can be discovered via an interactive exhibition in the steeple of the St Trinity Church in Jelgava, from which you can also get a good view of the city from a 9th-floor platform.  Next you will visit a farm where you will learn about Latvia traditions and bake bread together with the lady of the house.  From there, the route will lead to a grain farm, where you will find a collection of dairy processing equipment and a playground for children.  You can spent the night in a field of grain or a design hotel that has a traditional farm and a collection of restored old automobiles.  Along the way, you will stop in Bauska to see its City Hall and its collection of ancient measuring equipment.  Grain traditions will really be appreciated at a farm that uses its own grain and roughly ground flour to produce a wide range of traditional foods.  Finally, you will visit a collection of tools, farm equipment and household items that are all typical of Latvia's countryside.
