The Berķenele semi-estate is a historical monument of national importance, known as the place where the distinguished Latvian author and politician Rainis (1865-1929) spent his childhood. The house was restored in 1995, and since 1996 it has been the Rainis house in Berķenele. Rainis recorded his childhood impressions in a poetry collection called "Five Sketch Notebooks from Dagda." Today the managers of the house offer tours, creative workshops and exhibitions. Visitors can don the clothing worn by the lord and his servants. Around the house is a large orchard, featuring a programme called "Route of Apples." The house also has a lovely landscape that is interesting to see. |

This swampy territory used to be part of a Littorena Sea lagoon, and it is a place where many rare and protected birds such as woodpeckers live and nest. Territory is hard to reach although some of the territory can be surveyed from the Tukums-Kolka road. Wet meadows is called "lankas" in Kurzeme region. |

The castle was built during the first half of the 19th century in Tudor Neo-Gothic forms. The first owner of the castle was Baron Johann Gottlieb von Wolff. During the 1870s and 1880s it was rebuilt in the style of French Neo-Renaissance. The castle was burned down during the 1905 Revolution, but it was restored with certain elements of Art Nouveau forms. Tours are available of the interior of the building. |

Liepene, in the Ventspils District, was once home to a coast guard division. The facilities are now privately owned and offer accommodations to tourists.

“Pagrabiņš” is located in the Old Town of the city, in the historic town hall building. Its interior preserves historic vaults and stone walls that have been decorated with photo exhibitions. In summer, the guests can enjoy their meal on a terrace over the small River Alekšupīte. |

The tour from Rīga to Tallinn combines natural and cultural heritage and includes lovely landscapes and 15 nature trails which cross marshlands, meadows and forests along the shores of the Baltic Sea, including several protected nature reserves. Many trails are equipped with viewing towers for birdwatching. Randu meadows near Ainaži contains one third of Latvia’s entire plant species. A boardwalk leads through reeds to a viewing platform with views over the meadow and the sea. Saaremaa island is interesting with very different natural attractions to the mainland - dolomite cliffs, juniper heaths, a meteorite lake and rocky sea shore. The tour passes rural farms and traditional villages typical of the coastal areas. Hiiumaa island is a laid back place and retains a very Estonian atmosphere with an important bird reserve at Käina Bay, unusual Sääre Tirp as well as several small islets off its south-eastern coast. Kale is a traditional wooden sailing ship for trawling nets on Lake Võrtsjärv, but its graceful appearance with two triangular sails often inspired pleasure trips too. Võrtsjärve Foundation supported the building of the ship Paula, completed in 2005 and Liisu in 2009. Trips aboard a kaleship are a genuinely memorable experience. |

quarry). Some of the quarries are flooded.

Lõosilma farm is only 10 km away from Pärnu; it is engaged in the cultivation and processing of agricultural products. Delicious canned food is prepared from the vegetables in the farmhouse kitchen, and many of the products have gained national taste titles. The farm has camper parking powered by solar energy. |

The wetland meadows that are around the Pededze River are the site of this 200 ha farm with some 350 red deer, other deer and wild boar. There are towers from which you can watch the graceful animals, and there are ponds for commercial fishing. Please contact the owner well in advance for a tour. |
