The café Bastions is located in the historic centre of Valmiera on former medieval fortifications. Their menu offers Latvian cuisine and an extensive variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner meals. The café collaborates with local farmers and producers. During summer, enjoy your meal on the beautiful outside terrace overlooking Lake Dzirnavu.

The nature park in the Ogre River valley is found along the middle section of the river. It has been established so as to protect the unregulated river valley and its surrounding territory, as well as biological diversity and habitats. For instance, this is an area in which rare park-type meadows can be found in Latvia. The Ogre is one of Latvia’s most popular rivers for water tourism in the spring, particularly downriver from the town of Ērgļi, where the technically complicated Braži rapids are found.

Legendary restaurant Halinga is located on the roadside of Via Baltica half an hour’s drive from Pärnu in the direction of Tallinn. The restaurant is suitable for both busy travellers and organising events, including for large groups. We use as many local ingredients as possible and cook according to local recipes.

The Ķemeri National Park (est. 1997) covers wetlands, the shallow waters of the Bay of Rīga, overgrown seaside lakes, swamps, damp forests and wetland meadows.  There are many important plants (including some 25% of those that are declared to be rare) and animals, including an area where the locations of nesting and migrating birds are protected.  The park includes one of the largest swamps in Latvia – the Great Ķemeri Swamp.  This is an important location for sulphurous waters and medicinal dunes, and back in history, that was the reason for the establishment of popular spas in Ķemeri. Visitors to the park are interested by educational nature trails, bike and hiking routes and bird watching towers.

This is an authentic Lettigalian farm which dates back to the early 20^th century. It features a house, granary, cattle shed, sauna and smithy. Folklore groups perform here. You can celebrate the Summer Solstice, attend a St Michael’s Day market and learn ancient craftsmanship skills. Lettigalian foods are served to groups.

Taka ved cauri mežam uz skatu torni purva malā. Takā apskatāma Nāzara priede –priede, pie kuras 1905. gadā nošauts dumpinieks, pati priede – ekoloģiskais koks ar dzilnu kaltiem dobumiem, nokaltusi. Melnalkšņu dumbrājs - slīkšņa ar cūkaušiem un puplakšiem. Oleru purvs no skatu torņa – pārejas un sūnu purvs, kas izveidojies nolaista ezera vietā. Papildus objekti blakus takai, pieejami pa ceļu – Oleru muižas komplekss, Krustakmens, Oleru muižas kapi.

This route section takes you to the Dzūkija National Park – it is among Lithuania’s most forested and desolate nature areas –, and to the town of Druskininkai – a popular SPA and mineral water health resort on the banks of the river Nemunas. When in Druskininkai, we recommend dipping yourself in mineral water baths, enjoying the trip with the cable car over the river Nemunas, visiting the musical fountain, and walking along the river promenade. The starting point of the hiking route is the village of Didžiasalis, which is reached by bus from Druskininkai. From there, the route will take you through vast coniferous forests, rich in berries and mushrooms, and small villages. As you get to Druskininkai, the Forest Trail will meander along the small streets and parks of the historic resort of Druskininkai, crossing the river Ratnyčia and the forest park on the right bank of the Nemunas valley. Leaving the resort town behind, the Forest Trail runs on the side of the village revealing you the beautiful landscapes and the view of the Liškiava monastery on the other bank of the river Nemunas. Up to the village of Žiogeliai, the route goes along forest roads and continues along the banks of the Nemunas valley, surrounded by the vast Dzūkija forests. Towards the end of the route, climb up the Merkinė Mound and it will surprise you with breathtaking views of southern Lithuania.

The lady of the house greets visitors in a folk costume, offering an educational programme in the local Žemaiši language.  She talks about herbal teas and how to find the herbs and brew them.  Along with the tea, the lady offers homemade cheese, bread, pierogi and honey.  The guesthouse is on the banks of Lake Beržoris, not far from Lake Platelys.  The Žemaitija National Park is nearby and easily reached on foot, by bike, by boat or by car.
