The restaurant is at the edge of the Vidzeme Highway (A2). It is a lovely log building with a straw roof and an antique interior. Dishes are based on ancient traditions merged with the requirements of modern clients. Latvian cuisine: Cold soup, dumpling soup, grey peas with bacon, wheat grain porridge, lampreys in mustard sauce, pike-perch grilled on coals, roast pig’s ear, roast pork leg, chicken livers in a creamy sauce, stacked rye bread, cottage cheese dessert with cranberry sauce. |

The mansion of Uue-Varbla Manor houses the local history museum which presents local life from the early 20th C and history of Varbla municipality. There is a handicraft workshop in the museum, while old tools and machinery are exhibited in the granary. The mansion in early Classicist style from 1797 is an attraction in itself. Traditional handicraft fairs are held in the grounds in July every summer. |

The No. 521 Border Guard post at Ovīši is owned by the Defence Ministry and is closed to civilians. Visitors can only look at the ruins of some buildings in the dunes.

These two lakes, along with Lake Mazezers, Lake Auziņš, Lake Skuja and Lake Bruņķītis, are found in a sub-glacial depression with shores and hillsides that are home to various kinds of forest, including stands of broadband trees such as ash. These are protected habitats. Alongside the Priedītes homestead there is a well-appointed nature trail for visitors who wish to study Lake Dziļezers and its surroundings. A boating facility is on the north-eastern shore of the Lake.

This farm is in a lovely location on the western side of the Talsi hillocks, offering a look at Talsi and its area. This is an open farm with grows and processes apples (dried apples, apple chips, apple juice). Visitors are offered an informative tour, with a chance to taste and purchase the products. The farm is in a protected natural area -- the Talsi Hillocks Nature Park. There is an area for tenting during the summer. The owners will teach you to produce a crown from fruit tree branches. The gardens of the farm stretch across the hillocks, and there are several types of local apple trees that are nurtured by the lady of the house. An informative stand alongside the farm features information about the most important values of the nature park. |

Because this circular trail is in a nature zone, it may only be traversed in the company of a guide from the Slītere Nature Park. A steep stairway that has been installed along the ancient shores of what was once a Baltic lake of ice will lead the visitor to a completely different world, one with fallen trees, broadleaf forests, an area in which underground streams create aboveground wetlands, a limy and grassy swamp (all of these are protected areas), remains of old-time reclamation ditches, and rotting fir stumps which are important in terms of the diversity of species and which have been in the region since a major windstorm in 1969. The trail is 1.2 km long and will take an hour to an hour-and-a-half to traverse. The trail begins at the Slītere lighthouse, where the SNP visitors’ centre is located (in tourist season).

The Livonian Order built a castle made of bricks and fieldstones in this location in 1253. The building measured 72 x 40 metres and had a three-story residential area and a gate tower at its centre. An entrance for soldiers was installed at the height of the second floor of the fortified wall during the 14th century, with barriers and four bastions installed during the 16th and 17th century. Legend has it that the daughter of a knight was bricked into the wall and that there was once a secret underground passage to the Lutheran church that is 200 metres away. The park includes the “Ancient Seashore” promenade, featuring plaques with quotes from Zenta Mauriņa and Jānis Rainis. |

The farm, which has been developed around the servants’ home of the former Ķempēni Estate, breeds more than 200 Latvian dark-headed sheep. Visitors can purchase meat, wool and skins, also taking part in informational tours with tastings of various foods, as well as catching and tasting trout (this is available only to those who spend the night at the venue). |
