One of the rare places (see also Rucavas ivju audze) in Latvia where two rare and protected wild tree species grow - yew-tree and Baltic ivy. Territory is not marked on site with information signs or stands. Territory is not suitable for visitors as visitor without environmental knowledge will see “regular” forest. On the East side of the restricted area is located extending low wall – former narrow gauge railway (600 mm, length 41 km) line Dulbeni – Rucava. Railway was built by German military forces with the goal – to export wood.

This museum is devoted to the career of the ceramist Polikarps Čerņavskis. His work featured light, yellowish and very bright glazing. Guided tours of the museum are available. There are demonstrations of the use of the potter’s wheel. Ceramics can be purchased, and visitors can attend the opening of the kiln. Special works can be commissioned.

In the centre of Līgatne, on the right bank on the rapid Līgatne River, there is a viewing plan which offers a close-up look at one of the most impressive sandstone cliffs which rise above it – the Lustūzis cliff. There are artificial caves in the wall of the cliff, which locals use as cellars and as places to store their property.

Ezera un tuvākās apkārtnes iepazīšanas nolūkā ir izveidota 3,5 km garā Ehijerva taka (Ähijärve teerada). Tās sākums atrodas pie iepriekš minētā apmeklētāju centra, kur izveidota atpūtas vieta un atraktīvs bērnu spēļu laukums. Taka sākumā ved gar ezera krastu, nelieliem mitrājiem un meža ceļiem, kas izmantoti iepriekšējos gadsimtos.

В давние времена проспект Курмаяс был главной дорогой, ведущей на пляж. Вдоль проспекта стоят роскошные дома и виллы рубежа XIX – XX века, принадлежащие аристократам – обожателям моря и побережья. Здесь установлены отлитые в бронзе скульптуры из гимна Лиепаи «Город, в котором рождается ветер» - «Лодочник», «Янтарные латыши», «Ворона» и др. В конце проспекта возвышается памятник погибшим морякам и рыбакам (установлен в 1977 г.). Он символизирует женщину, которая ждет возвращения домой своего мужчины. На проспекте Курмаяс 16/18 находится Лиепайский историко-художественный музей. Музейный фонд (всего более 100 000 экспонатов)разместился в построенном в 1901 году в стиле эклектизма (с элементами готики) доме, который строился по эскизам берлинского архитектора Эрнеста фон Ине и проекту П. М. Берчи. В экспозиции представлена каменная стела – единственная подобного рода находка в странах Балтии с могильника под Гробиней (могильник Скандинавов).

The monument is in the Bērtuļi cemetery and has a brass plaque that reads “With deep thanks to fallen heroes of the Latvian people.  The 10th Rūjiena Vanagi district.”  On the other side of the monument, the words “God, Fatherland, Nation” are engraved.  The monument was restored in 1989.

The Krāslava Catholic Church was built between 1755 and 1767 after a design by the Italian architect A. Paracco, and it is considered to be Latgale’s most outstanding Baroque monument. The tour starts at Jaunmokas Castle estate, where you will also find the Forest Museum. The pride of the castle is its unique painted tile stove (beginning of the 20th century) made of 130 painted tiles featuring 50 different views of the cities Rīga and Jūrmala. The Forest Trails runs along smaller tracks through the Austrumkursa Uplands, the valley of the river Slocene, along Lake Sekļa and Lake Jumprava to finally reach the town of Tukums. Well, the town takes pride in its pots, planters and flower beds with blooming roses along its streets. Next, the route meanders through forests to the demanding hillock of Milzkalns and Lake Valguma, where you will find the barefoot trail and a secluded art space within the woods. The Forest Trail continues to make a stopover at the Ķemeri National Park. The park is dedicated to protection of wetlands, since it is home to one of the largest marshlands of Latvia – the Great Ķemeri bog. As to the town – Ķemeri – it is the former balneological and sulphur springs resort. The tour ends in the village of Bigauņciems, where the Forest Trail joins with the Baltic Coastal Hiking Route (E9 European long distance path). Optionally, one can take a detour along the Lake Sloka trail with its bird-watching tower or pay a visit to the “Forest House” – the visitor’s centre of the Ķemeri National Park.

To the North of the Cesvaine Castle is a park that is crossed by the rapidly flowing Sūla River.  The Cesvaine castle hill is on the northern bank of the river, is around 15 m high and is covered by trees today.  The grave of the owner of the castle, Adolf von Wolff, is there.  It is said that he wanted to have his casket dragged to the gravesite on a sled.  He died during the summer, but that was done anyway.  The park features a wide diversity of trees and bushes, some of which the owner brought home from his extensive travels.
