The No. 23 Coastal Defence Battery in Liepāja was on the shore and part of the naval port. It was built in the 1940s and had positions for four 130 mm cannons, as well as two towers – one for observations, and the other for commanders. The two towers were very close to one another – just 10 metres apart. The cannons were to the right of the two towers, right on the seashore. The cement bunker has been damaged by seawater – it’s crooked and tilting toward the sea. The location of the battery is now between Tobago and Jūras streets, toward the sea.

This battery is easiest to find if you walk on the beach, because one of its four positions is right there, rinsed by the waves of the sea. Other positions, including a telescope tower, are in the pine forest not far from the coast. The battery was installed in the 1940s, and you can see the Northern Forts from here.
