Third “Baltic Cider” Project Partner Meeting in Vidzeme

17.06.2025

Last week, from June 10th to 11th, the third partner meeting of the “Baltic Cider” project took place in Vidzeme, gathering project partners and cider producers from Latvia and Estonia. During the meeting, marketing activities were discussed, as well as piloting and analysis processes, along with the development of a terroir map.

  • Marketing Activities

Participants were introduced to the Baltic Cider website and its planned content. The site will feature information about cider flavors and traditions, the cider-making process, upcoming events, and all cider producers in Latvia and Estonia. Additionally, the filming of videos about Estonian cider makers and the creation of a promotional poster were discussed.

  • Piloting and the Baltic Cider Terroir Map

As part of the project, soil samples, apples, and cider are being analyzed to create a Baltic Cider terroir map that will reflect regional diversity and the specific taste profiles of cider. Based on the analysis results, cider makers will produce experimental cider batches using apples from various varieties. Research institutes are also conducting survey among cider makers on how they produce cider, maintain their orchards, and select specific apple varieties.

  • Experience Exchange at Two Cideries – Mūrbūdu Sidrs and Abuls

On each day of the meeting, participants visited a different cidery. Both Krišjānis, the owner of “Mūrbūdu Sidrs,” and Jānis, the owner of “Abuls,” introduced their cider-making methods and techniques, showcased their production facilities and equipment, and shared their experiences and recommendations regarding cider production. These visits provided all project participants with valuable insights and ideas to support the ongoing development of Baltic cider’s visibility and competitiveness.
